Safety Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day health, safety and environmental functions supporting site leadership and operating teams within the designated facility. Through coaching, teaching, and training, the Supervisor ensures compliance with DSV’s Safety Programs, policies and procedures and statutory requirements (including OHSAS 18001:2007 & ISO 14001:2004). The role serves as a subject‑matter expert and consultant to internal clients, helping build sustainable loss‑improvement processes within the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

HSE Policies and Procedures Responsible for the overall safety and security of the assigned facility, operations and staff. Maintain positive IFR statistics and other safety metrics. Ensure compliance with DSV Safety Programs, policies and procedures and related SOPs. Establish HSE goals consistent with corporate policies and aligned with corporate and site vision. Ensure adequately trained skilled HSE resources are in place and actively support needed HSE activity. Implement systems that comply with all applicable HSE laws and regulations. Communicate site HSE goals, action plans and results to the organization. Review and update HSE policies and procedures annually; Consult with senior managers and operation managers to formulate best‑practice policies. Keep staff and leadership informed of changes in HSE legislation and corporate HSE processes. Risk Assessment Develop and monitor effective risk assessment management strategies. Ensure appropriate HSE risk assessments are completed by trained or qualified personnel. Monitoring Performance (Documentation, Tracking, Statistics and Reporting) Propose, implement and monitor measures necessary to comply with HSE regulations. Design, implement and monitor workplace safety audits. Serve as the DSV representative for OSHA, EPA, DOT, DHS and other regulatory agencies. Audit facility and personnel for safety and environmental deficiencies. Handle all workers’ compensation claims until closure. Health and Safety Maintain accident statistics, analyze trends and propose remedial actions. Investigate or arrange investigations of all accidents and near‑misses. Assist and support risk assessments. Ensure the Emergency Management System is in place and conduct drills annually. Liaise between management and staff on HSE matters. Responsible for OSHA recordkeeping and training programs. Conduct safety training for all new hires. Ensure all employees can identify potential hazards. Environmental Management Ensure legal compliance and reduce risk of non‑compliance. Identify opportunities for continuous environmental improvement. Represent the operation with local and national health, safety and environment bodies. Coordinate the integration of environmental management and sustainability issues into policies. Responsible for USEPA and other environmental agency reporting and recordkeeping. Other duties assigned by the General Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Communicate all problems and questions to site leadership and implement solutions. Follow all safety procedures. Responsible for all equipment, supplies, documents and materials related to the job. Comply with all DSV policies and procedures. Comply with all federal, state and local regulations. Communicate with all levels of staff and the public as appropriate.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education & Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 3 years’ experience in a logistics/distribution/relevant environment. Prior experience in safety observations/inspections and development of compliance strategies. Knowledge of safety and health management systems and practices. Preferred: Prior MHE certification / knowledge of basic MHE operation. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program. Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). RF Scanners. WMS functions. Language Skills English (reading, writing, verbal). Business communication. Mathematical Skills Basic to intermediate level to verify quantities of product, count inventory, or perform other duties associated with handling, storing and distributing client products. Other Skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy; complete tasks in a timely manner. Good organizational and personnel skills. Good written and oral communication skills. Good leadership, supervision and planning skills. Able to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends as required. Participate in cross‑training metrics activities and assist as a back‑up when needed. Adapt to change and thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Work in unregulated warehouse temperatures ranging from mild to moderate. Work overtime as dictated by business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
