Wastewater Senior Technical Manager

Overview Senior Technical Manager – Municipal Wastewater Engineering (Southern California). The role leads wastewater projects from concept through construction, start‑up, and operations, and grows the West Region Wastewater Team. Location & Work Arrangement Southern California (San Diego, Los Angeles, Irvine). Hybrid – at least one office day per week with additional on‑site visits as needed. Travel: 20%. Responsibilities Provide technical leadership on wastewater projects of all sizes, from concept through construction and operations. Lead and grow the West Region Wastewater Team and multidisciplinary project teams. Build and strengthen client relationships, supporting business development, proposals, and strategic pursuits. Serve as a recognized technical expert in wastewater treatment processes; provide process expertise from planning and pilot studies through design, construction, and start‑up. Review and oversee technical deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to industry standards and client expectations. Support project managers with financial and technical delivery of project tasks, including scope, schedule, and budget. Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and professional societies; participate in external leadership opportunities. Contribute to the development of internal design or technical guidelines and standards. Qualifications Substantial technical expertise in civil and environmental engineering with deep knowledge of municipal wastewater systems. 20+ years of experience in evaluation, planning, design, and construction of wastewater engineering projects. Lead technical engineer for a minimum of 5 wastewater treatment facility designs (new or expansion). B.S. degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering; M.S. preferred. Registered Professional Engineer in California or ability to apply for reciprocity within 6 months of hire. Strong knowledge of state and local wastewater regulations. Proficient writing, communication, and presentation skills. Strong leadership ability to coach, mentor, and train staff. Up‑to‑date on technology, regulatory trends, and equipment advances. Ability to support or lead strategic initiatives to expand business opportunities. Salary $160,000 – $190,000 annually (2024 compensation range). Group A (San Diego, CA): $160,000 – $180,000. Group B (Los Angeles – Irvine, CA): $170,000 – $190,000. Benefits 401(k) pre‑tax or Roth contributions with 100% match of first 3% of salary. Observed holidays: choose up to 8 holidays annually.
