JOB SUMMARY: Bryant & Stratton College Deans of Nursing perform both administrative and instructional duties. As administrators, Deans of Nursing support the College mission and vision by overseeing the day-to-day management of their program areas. They are responsible for coaching and mentoring instructors within their program area as related to classroom methodology and delivery. Deans of Nursing are also responsible for providing guidance to program directors, and subject-area instructors and for ensuring that all required record keeping and reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner. As instructors, Deans of Nursing follow the job description for Instructional Associates. Deans of Nursing will be responsible for the supervision and administration of at least three nursing programs. They will follow a 40-hour work week and are classified as exempt employees. Deans of Nursing follow the functional manager vacation schedule. ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS: 1. Serve as academic leader in one or more programs or subject areas. o Provides leadership, oversight, and administration of daily operations and strategic planning for Nursing faculty and staff, as well as program, curriculum development, outcomes, evaluation, and resource management for both LPN, ADN and BSN degree programs o Ensure compliance with state, college, and accreditor benchmarks for first-time NCLEX pass rate, retention, graduation, placement, and employer satisfaction o Ensure program compliance with system office, state board, and national accreditation requirements o Lead and facilitate self-study process within defined timeframes o Evaluate course and program outcomes; recommend, implement, and evaluate initiatives for improvement as needed o Supervise, coach, and evaluate Associate Director of Nursing, Clinical Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant for Nursing o Oversees, in conjunction with the Nursing Clinical Coordinator, the ongoing development, monitoring and evaluation of clinical placement sites and preceptors as meeting nursing competency requirements within the legal scope of practice under the Wisconsin Nursing Practice Act o Provide student support and manage instructional costs through effective course scheduling, lab oversight, and advisement support o Research and analyze data to assure strong outcomes, using data including, but not limited to, program statistics (attendance, grades, retention, graduation, and NCLEX; recommend appropriate corrective or adjustment actions o Ensure positive relationships with employers, the State Board of Nursing, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the nursing education community at large through active networking, effective advisory board facilitation, conferences, and other activities o Provide system-level subject matter expertise (SME) leadership and coordination for the nursing program working with the system curriculum and instructional team o Serve on campus committees and participate in campus events o Lead and manage the Nursing program within the policy requirements defined by Policy MKTG-002, External Communications Policy o Additional duties, including teaching, as required 2. Manage the hiring, development, evaluation, and termination of subject-area instructors in collaboration with the Dean of Instruction. o Evaluate faculty credentials as part of the hiring and scheduling processes. o Ensure that all subject-area instructors adhere to all required administrative and classroom delivery duties and requirements as outlined in the job description for Instructional Associates. o Collaborate with the Associate Nursing Academic Program Director and Dean of Instruction regarding the selection, training, scheduling, coaching, and evaluating of Nursing faculty and staff with respect to College and department expectations, classroom performance, course development, and rigor o Perform annual performance reviews for subject-area instructors. 3. Assist the Dean of Instruction in on-going faculty development and faculty development planning and delivery. o Provide on-going development opportunities for subject-area instructors to aid in their continuous improvement and growth. o Perform developmental and evaluative classroom observations, facilitate pre- and post-observation discussions, and collaborate with faculty in creation of developmental plans. Monitor progress toward and completion of action plans. o Lead instructional delivery and methodology training (along with peer PDs) under the supervision of the dean. o Assist the Dean in increasing participation of both full- and part-time faculty in developing and maintaining the Professional Teaching Portfolio to affect the quality of teaching and learning in their program area. o Conduct regular meetings with subject-area instructors. Record and save minutes.
o Provide subject-specific training for instructors on an as-needed basis to communicate changes in instructional emphases, curriculum, technology, etc. 4. Adhere to and uphold all established operational policies and procedures. o Ensure that all subject-area instructors adhere to all required administrative and classroom delivery duties and requirements as outlined in the job description for Instructional Associates. o Provide input into the nursing budget process. o Establish a calendar and system to ensure the timely and accurate completion and submission of all government and accrediting agency reports. Complete all such reports. 5. Pursue opportunities for professional growth, including participating in and completing the PD/PA/SAC Certification program developed by the College. Qualifications/Competencies:
- Earned PhD Degree in Nursing or Nursing Education; Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Three (3) years’ experience in Nursing education at the college level within the last ten (10) years; instruction in educational theory or Nursing Education preferred
- Must have a minimum of two (2) calendar years work experience as a nurse and current Wisconsin RN license or eligibility for a Wisconsin RN license
- Expertise in a clinical area
- Demonstrated leadership skills, integrity, and ethical practice with emphasis on problem solving, conflict management/ resolution, adaptability, creativity, and sensitivity to diversity
- Willingness to self-assess, take feedback, and incorporate results into practice
- Ability to recognize and proactively address areas of opportunity and challenge
- Documented management experience in an educational setting
- Proven administrative, evaluative, analytical, strategic thinking and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Internet applications
- Proficiency with other technologies currently used in Nursing profession
- Proven ability to function as a member of a team within established college, state, federal, and accrediting/approval agency regulations, policies and procedures
