Advanced Practice Provider (NP) - Gastroenterology Services

The Inpatient Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive care to patients admitted to the hospital, working closely with GI Hospitalists and Gastroenterologists. This position enhances the inpatient GI service by engaging in patient rounds, coordinating care, providing procedural assistance, and managing gastrointestinal conditions, all while prioritizing high-quality, patient-focused care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily rounds for hospitalized patients with gastrointestinal issues.
  • Collaborate with supervising physicians to create and execute treatment plans.
  • Oversee admissions, consultations, progress notes, and discharge processes.
  • Assist physicians during GI procedures as needed.
  • Analyze diagnostic tests, lab results, and imaging studies.
  • Coordinate care with hospitalists, nursing teams, specialists, and support services.
  • Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care.
  • Ensure seamless transitions of care and organize outpatient follow-up appointments.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects and support departmental objectives.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification or eligibility as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Experience in gastroenterology is preferred; however, new graduates with robust inpatient training will be considered.
  • Ability to function both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong clinical judgment and procedural capabilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exceptional clinical assessment and diagnostic abilities.
  • Capability to manage complex medical conditions in an inpatient setting.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
  • Ability to work autonomously while effectively collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
Work Environment
  • Primarily based in a hospital setting focused on inpatient care.
  • Close collaboration with GI Hospitalists and Gastroenterologists.
  • Involves patient rounding, managing consultations, providing procedural support, and coordinating outpatient follow-up care.
