The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for operating imaging equipment that utilizes radioactive substances to create images of patients' internal structures and functions. They prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, perform imaging procedures, and ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the process. The technologist also assists with patient education, maintains equipment, and follows strict protocols to ensure accurate results and adherence to safety regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Review patient medical history and explain imaging procedures.
- Operate nuclear medicine equipment, such as gamma cameras, PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanners, and SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) scanners, to capture images of organs and tissues.
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols. Ensure accurate dosage and proper patient positioning for optimal image quality.
- Collaborate with radiologists and physicians to review and interpret images. Provide technical input and observations that contribute to accurate diagnoses.
- Perform routine quality control tests on imaging equipment to ensure accuracy and consistency of images. Maintain detailed records of equipment performance and testing.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and themselves. Properly handle and dispose of radioactive materials according to regulations.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients undergoing imaging procedures. Ensure patients are comfortable and informed throughout the process.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including imaging results, radiopharmaceutical administration, and any adverse reactions.
- Perform routine maintenance on imaging equipment and troubleshoot minor issues. Coordinate with biomedical engineers for more complex equipment repairs.
- Stay updated with advancements in nuclear medicine technology, safety practices, and regulatory changes. Participate in continuing education activities to maintain relevant certifications.
- Lifting at least 50 pounds and standing for prolonged periods of time
- Work between Webster and Sugarland locations
- Performs related duties as required.

Requirements:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized accrediting organization, such as the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Must be experienced in performing PET scans across all specialties (cardiac, oncology, neurology, pulmonary).
- State licensure or certification, if required in the applicable region.
- Strong knowledge of radiation safety protocols and regulations.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to accurately record and document procedures.
- Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment issues and patient reactions.
- This role will rotate weekly between our Webster and Sugar Land locations (one week at each).
