Controls Engineer

Sterling Engineering

Controls Engineer | Buffalo Grove, IL

An established automation engineering company in the Chicago suburbs is adding a Controls Engineer to its team. This is an opportunity to work on custom automation and robotics projects where you’ll be involved from the initial concept through design, programming, commissioning, and customer installation.

The role offers a strong mix of electrical engineering, PLC programming, robotics, troubleshooting, and hands-on project work. Since the systems are highly customized, you’ll have the opportunity to solve new problems and work with different technologies rather than working on the same equipment day after day.

What makes this opportunity interesting:

Own controls projects from concept through installation and training
Work with Rockwell or Siemens PLCs, Fanuc robotics, machine vision, and industrial networks
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers
Work directly with customers and see your designs implemented in the field
Join a team that emphasizes professional growth, creativity, and continuous learning
Up to 30% travel, primarily within the U.S.

We're particularly interested in Controls Engineers with 3+ years of experience, but strong candidates with relevant hands-on controls experience are encouraged to connect.

If you're open to exploring a role where you can design, program, troubleshoot, and see your projects come to life, I'd be happy to share more details.
