Job Roles and Responsibilities
- Evaluate site conditions, including topographic surveys and geotechnical data.
- Prepare structural design plans, specifications, calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews of engineering designs.
- Develop quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
- Assist in preparing permitting documents.
- Apply value engineering principles throughout the design process.
- Research and evaluate new engineering methods and materials.
- Assist with and lead bridge and structural inspections.
- Coordinate with utility companies and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Manage subconsultants and support project planning and execution.
- Monitor project budgets, invoicing, schedules, and reporting.
- Serve as a liaison between clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Assist with proposal preparation and business development activities.
- Participate in networking and professional development opportunities.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering focus or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience.
- Structural Engineer (SE) license or ability to obtain SE licensure within two years preferred.
- Engineer Intern (EI) certification preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Experience with bridge, transportation, retaining wall, culvert, dam, or related structural projects.
- Proficiency with MicroStation, GEOPAK, AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, or similar software.
- Familiarity with structural design software such as Enercalc, RISA 3D, Merlin Dash, OpenBridge Designer, or AASHTOWare.
- Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and related bridge design standards.
- Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
