We Are Looking For Teammates Who Are Analytical thinkers who can examine financial information and identify inconsistencies Detailed-oriented professionals who can maintain accurate records and clearly document investigative findings Strong communicators who can interview others and clearly present complex information Able to work independently and as part of a team Willing to work protective services/security detail, as needed What You Will Do As a Special Agent, you will enforce criminal tax statutes relative to tax administration and related financial crimes to encourage and achieve, directly or indirectly, voluntary compliance with South Carolina’s tax laws and conduct complex tax and financial crime investigations to ensure the safety and security of all South Carolina Department of Revenue employees, visitors, and property. Primary Job Duties Include Conducting complex tax and financial crime investigations using auditing, forensic accounting, and law enforcement techniques Collecting, documenting, and preserving evidence through search warrants, surveillance, interviews, financial records, and other investigative methods Preparing comprehensive investigative reports that summarize financial findings, evidence, and conclusions for criminal cases Preparing and serving arrest warrants, making arrests, transporting suspects, and participating in booking and bond hearing procedures Providing support for criminal prosecutions, including preparing case files for prosecutorial review, assisting attorneys with case and trial preparation, and presenting evidence and sworn testimony in court proceedings Planning and providing training to other agents on investigative techniques, case organization, law enforcement equipment, and related topics Providing training and presentations to agency staff and external audiences on criminal tax enforcement and investigative matters Performing protective service and security functions to help ensure the safety of SCDOR employees, visitors, facilities, and property Minimum And Additional Requirements A bachelor’s degree and professional experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis. Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning. Additional Requirements Valid driver’s license Must be able to pass a credit check, psychological evaluation, reading comprehension test, and a medical screening Will be required to attend and successfully complete the basic law enforcement certification program at the SC Criminal Justice Academy if not already certified Must be able to obtain an SC Constable Commission I, as required by SLED Preferred Qualifications A bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting and four years of accounting, auditing, or law enforcement experience Knowledge of SC criminal code provisions Knowledge of accounting, auditing, and tax law Additional Comments EEO: The SCDOR is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, and pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, including, but not limited to, lactation. Training: You will work in a trainee mode alongside senior level agents to learn the process for developing non-complex cases. Hours: Work hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
