COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE II EARLY CARE PROGRAMS HOME NURSE - TWO POSITIONS: FT/PT CONTRACTUAL

Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of these full-time and part-time contractual positions is to assist the Garrett County Health Department in fulfilling its mission of promoting, protecting, and improving the health of county residents. These positions will provide in-home support services to families through intensive nurse home visiting and support non-nursing staff working with families through the Healthy Families America home visiting program. These positions will work to improve birth outcomes, strengthen families, cultivate nurturing parent-child relationships, promote child health and developmental outcomes, promote family stability, build foundations for strong family functioning, and promote positive parenting practices. These positions will enable individuals to maintain independence and well-being, assist in preserving family structure, promote functional home environments, and teach clients how to access and utilize available community resources. With guidance from the Community Health Nurse Supervisor, these positions will work to improve parenting skills, reduce family stress, and meet the ongoing needs of the family unit to achieve optimal functioning. These positions will promote family and child health through nursing assessment and planning, education, and linkage to other resources. These positions will collaborate with other health professionals and community agencies to support families’ and children’s health, nutrition, safety, and development. These positions will also support paraprofessionals working with families and provide childbirth education to expectant parents in accordance with Prepared Childbirth Educators Certification. Grade 19 Location of Position MDH, Garrett County Health Department Oakland, MD 21550 Minimum Qualifications Education : A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Experience : None. Notes Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education. Candidates may substitute two years of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Desired or Preferred Qualifications The desired candidate should possess the following: Experience working with maternal and infant populations. Experience conducting home visits. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. Special Requirements Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached. Benefits Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract, and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period.
