Robert Half is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to support the development and bring-up of hardware systems involving USB Type-C and Power Delivery (PD) controllers for a government company based in Bellevue, WA. Apply today!
Duration: 6-month contract with possible conversion
Pay Rate: $100 - $115/hourly
Location: Hybrid in Bellevue — 3 days onsite.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 to 5pm
Responsibilities
- Bring up hardware systems, each of which includes a Power Delivery (PD) controller.
- Develop and maintain embedded and bare-metal firmware for PD controllers.
- Develop firmware in C for microcontroller-based systems.
- Work directly with hardware during system bring-up and troubleshooting.
- Use debugging equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues.
- Review and interpret electrical schematics to understand how PD controller pins are mapped and how the hardware, software, and data interact.
- Work with hardware communication buses, including I2C, SPI, and other low-speed buses .
- Work with Cypress and Infineon microcontrollers and the associated IDE used to develop and run C code.
- Support USB Type-C and Power Delivery functionality, including understanding the process involved in USB power negotiation.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with Electrical Engineers regarding design and troubleshooting.
- Experience developing embedded and bare-metal firmware .
- Strong C programming experience.
- Hands-on experience debugging hardware using tools such as a multimeter and oscilloscope .
- Experience working directly with hardware and PD controllers during system bring-up.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and use them to inform firmware development.
- Experience working with hardware communication buses such as I2C, SPI, and low-speed buses .
- Experience with Cypress and/or Infineon MCUs and the associated development IDE.
- Basic understanding of USB Type-C and Power Delivery (PD) , including USB power negotiation.
- Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day direction.

- Experience with USB Power Delivery (PD) compliance .
- Additional hands-on experience with USB Type-C and Power Delivery systems.
