Collaborating with our General Contractor partners to achieve the goal of Zero Incident worksites is a high priority. As a team, we recognize that construction is an inherently hazardous industry. Therefore, we work every day and, in every situation, to bring Safety awareness and action to our work and our lives. The Field Safety Manager’s role is to work with the Team Safety to help us minimize the risk of job-related accidents, monitor operations to eliminate hazardous activities and develop policies to promote occupational health and safety awareness. The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000. (The compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience). The Role Responsible to see that every leader and every individual employed by Hermanson asks themselves and their teams, daily: “Who did I inspire or motivate today to have a “Safety Attitude for Life”? Manager and perform one-to-ones on assigned Safety Coordinators First on call to investigate all accidents, incidents and “near misses” and manages the accident investigation process. Investigate accidents and injuries to determine their causes and to determine whether the incidents were avoidable or can be prevented in the future. Interview customers, managers, and employees to learn about work environments and incidents that lead to accidents or injuries. Evaluate the corrections that were made to remedy the incident. Work with the customer to resolve any safety matters that arise. Manage open injury claims, oversee our back-to-work program for light duty and "kept on salary" employees. Coordinate efforts with assistance from the Safety Manager and Approach retro group manager. Assist Foremen and provide monthly feedback to Hermanson management on activities and results related to accidents, their root causes, costs and how not to repeat them. Tour jobsites and shops on a regular basis with Foremen, Superintendents and Project Managers and assist Field and Shop Foremen in identifying jobsite hazards and conditions, any unsafe employee work habits, and Intervene in unsafe activities or operations. Conduct new hire orientation, site-specific safety training for new Hermanson Employees and organize and conduct training for the crews (fork-lift, aerial lift, fall protection, trenching excavation, fall protection, confined space, etc.) Responsible for putting together site-specific safety manuals, site fall protection work plans, job hazard analysis. Assist Safety Manager in maintaining and updating the company’s accident prevention program by: Developing procedures and design systems to protect people from illness and injury and property from damage. Conducting weekly job-site audits on assigned projects, Identifying and correcting potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment, documenting safety visits, and administering drug tests as needed. Reviewing plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to make sure that they meet safety requirements. Reviewing employee safety programs and recommend improvements. Ensuring Foremen are complying with DOSH safety and health regulations, completing Pre-Task Planning, and following Hermanson Company Accident Prevention Program. Attend monthly safety committee meetings and makes sure job sites are conducting weekly safety meetings. Compiled records neatly and concisely to facilitate company-wide gathering of information relating to safety and health. Make necessary updates and additions in accordance with Washington State Laws. These programs will relate to worker safety, property protection, motor vehicle safety, general public and customer safety, and stay abreast of legal changes to safety and health codes. Accountabilities & KPIs Annual Safety budget 100% of required training and certifications to be met and documented OSHA/WISHA compliance audits Retro rating refund Monthly cost per head vs RIR Key Meetings to Attend Monthly Safety Committee Meetings Foreman Meetings Superintendent meeting Monthly Operations Meetings Jobs turnover meeting Capabilities Have a basic understanding of Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), be familiar with DOSH requirements. Ability to provide leadership and inspire exceptional cooperation from Foremen and crews. Strong presentation skills to be able to speak effectively before small and large groups of managers, customers, and/or employees. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, to write routine reports and correspondence. Physically able to negotiate the difficult conditions often encountered on job sites. This includes the occasional need to climb steep stairs, ride in scissor lifts and boom lifts, and work in hot and cold environments. Must be capable of obtaining customer and general contractor approval to walk job sites. Willing to go to a different job site each day or sometimes multiple job sites in one day. This position is required to support field personnel and service our customers on projects. Depending on project requirements this may require full time presence on the site and in some cases, presence before and after the project scheduled hours. Flexibility on hours and location of work is dependent on project requirements as determined by your supervisor. This position requires the ability to walk and maintain balance over rough, icy, or muddy ground, climb stairs and ladders, work safely at heights without fear, and to work effectively while exposed to the weather for long periods. Education Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, related field, 4 years of safety experience in the construction industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification to teach OSHA 10/30, forklift certification, first aid/CPR and respiratory fitting is required and must be maintained. 3 years’ experience in Safety Hermanson offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, financial future, and professional growth.
