Veterinary Extern - Specialty

Job Description

Applicants must be third or fourth-year students of accredited domestic or international veterinary schools, pursuing a DVM, VMD, or foreign equivalent.

We are a newly expanded specialty/emergency hospital with internal medicine, surgery, oncology, critical care, and neurology. Our emergency service is busy with complex cases and our specialty services love teaching. Our cases tend to be complex, but full of opportunities to learn. Our ICU and specialty techs also love to teach so you can get involved in all aspects of the case. Our team is energetic and very talented.


An externship experience at an Ethos Specialty Hospital gives students real-life clinical experience and the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills while working alongside experienced clinicians, board-certified specialists, current interns, and residents. Hands-on skills that may be practiced or observed include TPR's, examinations, anesthesia, surgical procedures, catheterization, ultrasound, and other diagnostic procedures as they are available.


Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at South Asheville Veterinary Emergency and Specialty are offered to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
