Controls Technician

ATS Companies is the leading provider of energy management services, automated control systems, critical airflow solutions, and building systems integration. ATS custom engineers and installs building automation systems to optimize buildings' mechanical and electrical systems, reduce building energy consumption, increase tenant comfort, and maximize the productivity of tenants and facilities management personnel.

The Controls Technician is a key player in the ATS team. This highly technical role is responsible for executing start-up functions on mechanical systems based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents, as well as conducting analysis of the performance of building control systems at an individual building level. Ensuring documentation is accurate and complete is a high priority for this position. This role will be called upon to collaborate with and provide project-engineering support as needed.

Duties and responsibilities include: control program use, checkout of DDC components, start-up of building control systems, commissioning of building control systems, record and update drawings, execute field changes/directives, troubleshoot component and equipment problems, training (owner and peer), assist project engineer with field tasks/coordination, panel construction, field documentation (as build drawings, check-out sheets, UL panel tags), and manage time to complete assignments on time and within budget.

Skills and abilities include: proven troubleshooting skills, high level of computer hardware and software skills, knowledge of DDC control theory and applications, ability to work independently and unsupervised, excellent interactive skills, and solid communication skills.

The work environment and physical demands require consistent physical work at a project jobsite, spending most of your time on your feet. Project jobsites present typical construction and outdoor conditions that require the use of personal protective equipment for safety purposes. Lifting and exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently is required. Must be comfortable climbing a ladder regularly. Small repetitive motions and use of small tools is included.

Compensation and benefits include an annual base salary ranging from $60,000 - $108,000 depending on experience.

Position type and hours are full-time, non-exempt, with typical Monday – Friday working hours with flexibility as needed and local travel required.

Credentials and experience include an AA degree in applied technology or equivalent combination of education and experience, including relevant military experience, computer programming experience desired, building mechanical system experience desired, experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits, and mechanical and electrical system troubleshooting experience.
