Professional Clinic - Assistant Nurse Manager

This position is eligible for a $13,100 sign-on bonus.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Assists JCHC Professional Clinic Manager in providing leadership for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all the activities in the Professional Clinic and Oncology Departments to achieve the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Assumes responsibility for the supervision of providers, clinical staff and registration staff, in accordance with hospital and departmental standards and policies. Recommend and implement changes to maintain or improve the delivery of services. Requires independent judgment and utilizing knowledge of hospital and corporate procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Iowa RN license
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Two years’ previous experience in a similar position within a health center or related field required

Reports to Professional Clinic Nurse Manager

DIRECT REPORTS:

Clinic provider; Clinic Registered Nurse; Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse; Clinic Medical Assistant; Clinic Registration Representative

POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

• Demonstrates clinical expertise and serves as a resource to direct reports
• Will be current on nursing trends an oversee development of nursing staff; including training, conferences, and in-services
• Establishes, manages, and enforces clinic policies, procedures, and practices related to clinical practice to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and hospital wide policies. Ensures adherence to policies and standards set forth by state, federal, and hospital regulatory agencies
• Assumes responsibility of staffing the registration and nursing area, for all hours of operation in the most efficient and cost-effective manner to meet the health centers patient service and financial needs. Participates in recruitment, interviewing, selection, orientation, and training of registration personnel
• Assumes responsibility for customer complaints, related to registration and clinical action, and escalates as needed to Professional Clinic Manager and/or Risk and Patient Relations Coordinator. Fulfills paperwork, communicates with other departments, and follows up as needed
• Assumes responsibility of timesheets, scheduling, and coordinating of direct reports for leave requests in accordance with policies and procedures, including vacation and FMLA requests
• Assumes responsibility for maintaining, and running reports related to clinical function
• Assumes responsibility for writing, submitting, and presenting quarterly Quality Reports to the Quality Committee if related to clinical or registration practice
• Plans, organizes, implements, and follows up on staff meetings for direct reports
• Assumes responsibility of yearly performance evaluations and quarterly rounding of direct reports. This includes needed disciplinary actions and counseling
• Attends and participates in management meetings and other meetings as assigned.
• Plans, organizes, implements, and follows up on electronic health record updates and changes
• Oversees ordering and stocking of supplies needed for direct reports to prevent outdates, overstocking, and cost
• Contributes to developing and adhering to the annual budget for operating and capital expenditures for the clinic

MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Administrative

• Remains current on regulatory compliance, educates staff, and ensures compliance in department
• Ensures standards of behavior, operational strategies and practice efficiencies are achieved
• Disseminate information, professional knowledge to department members, and hospital staff
• Is a catalyst for conforming to quality and accrediting standards
• Investigates patient, family, provider complaints, and follows appropriate risk management and grievance process guidelines to resolve the situation
• Manages problems and discrepancies as they present themselves and documents appropriately
• Participates in the development and achievement of established hospital and divisional goals
• Assists with research activities and development of business plans and proposals as directed
• Knowledge of the policies and procedures sufficient to direct department operations
• Assists with writing, reviewing, revising, and implementing policies and procedures
• Travels to meetings to represent Jefferson County Health Center and acquire necessary information

Financial/Technical Responsibilities

• Participates in the development of annual budgets and operates within the approved budget
• Safeguards the assets of JCHC by applying effective internal control practices and audits
• Implements cost management and strategies to ensure maximum efficiencies and productivity
• Assists with selection, use, maintenance, repair of department equipment
• Is responsible for or delegates ordering department inventory
• Prepares internal department invoices for Accounts Payable
• Prepares and validates statistical data in a timely manner

Personnel and Resource Management

• Participates in team-based interviews of applicants
• Provides for orientation of new employees
• Is responsible for staffing/scheduling, assuring safe and competent staffing patterns
• Utilizes a team base approach by seeking suggestions and input from staff and colleagues
• Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities of all direct reports and appointed positions are defined and understood
• Assigns administrative and operational responsibilities to department members
• Coordinates and participates in in-service programs, committees, and staff meetings as appropriate
• Maintains required reports, records and documents appropriate information regarding patient care and employee performance
• Conducts performance appraisals
• Consults with human resources regarding employee concerns in a proactive manner
