Activity Assistant

Purpose of Position Provides activities and interventions appropriate to meet the needs of the participating residents. Is knowledgeable of and understands the needs of the resident population. Description Is knowledgeable of Programs/Activity department practices, procedures, safety regulations, and guidelines and ensures that Programs/Activity schedules are followed as outlined by supervisor. Performs activities, follows schedules, and maintains records as directed, in accordance with established procedures. Inspects program/activity areas on a daily basis to ensure that the grounds, buildings and equipment are maintained in accordance with established policies and procedures and all hazardous areas are properly identified. Cleans program areas as directed, disposes of refuse/trash in accordance with established procedures, and reports to manager whenever supplies need to be ordered. Ensures that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of work day, etc. Assures that the program and activity area and equipment is properly maintained for comfort, convenience and safety, operating to manufacturer’s specifications. Reports and assists in identifying and correcting problem areas and equipment, and/or improvement of services, when applicable. Develops and maintains a good working rapport with inter‑departmental personnel and other departments within Heritage to assure that programs can be properly planned and maintained to meet the needs of Heritage. Participates in programs designed for in‑service education, on‑the‑job training and orientation classes. Adheres to Universal Precautions and Infection Control Policies, including following established hand‑washing procedures, use of appropriate PPE and supplies when handling infectious materials, and following established policies governing the use/disposal of PPE and disposal of infectious wastes. Has a competent understanding of all chemicals and has been trained to use them in accordance with standards. Keeps work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed at all times. Safety and Health Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies and use proper mechanics while performing duties (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc. when moving or lifting heavy objects). Keeps work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed at all times. Refers to materials safety when necessary. Reports all accidents/incidents to your supervisor, no matter how minor they may be. (Note: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift on which they occur). Adheres to department working hours and completes assignments within guidelines set by supervisor and performs other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor. Demonstrates versatility and/or willingness to cover emergencies, various functions and shifts, e.g., driving, working weekends and holiday staffing, may be required to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays, when necessary, and in other positions temporarily when necessary. Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information, and reports known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of said information. Reports known or suspected incidents of fraud to the Executive Director. Drive Heritage vehicle for errands, transporting, or other uses as directed. Performs other job‑related duties as requested by the Executive Director and/or designee to meet the needs of the residents and the facility. Qualifications High School Degree and 1 to 3 years experience working with the elderly preferred. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Must have a valid MA Driver’s License. Schedule Details 32 Hours Per Week, Rotating Days, 9:30 a – 6 p, Every Other Weekend & Every Other Holiday.
