Grinder Operator

The Grinder Operator sets up and operates grinding equipment to remove rough edges, slag, burrs, and imperfections from large steel parts. This role follows blueprints and work instructions, performs repetitive grinding and finishing tasks, and verifies that parts meet required dimensions and quality standards. The position works on a mid-shift schedule, with initial training on first shift, and plays a key role in preparing steel components used in various industries. This opportunity allows room to grown internally with a new facility opening. We are looking for individuals to interview and start as soon as possible. We offer weekly pay with overtime paying time and a half.

Will train at Cuyahoga Falls location starting out for 2-6 weeks*

Responsibilities

• Review work orders, blueprints, shop drawings, and production instructions before starting each job to understand requirements and specifications.
• Inspect steel parts to identify areas that require grinding, deburring, or finishing and determine the appropriate tools and techniques to use.
• Use hand grinders, angle grinders, and other finishing tools to remove rough edges, slag, burrs, and imperfections from steel parts.
• Perform skip grinding by picking up steel parts after cutting and grinding off slag and rough edges left from the cutting process.
• Smooth sharp corners and edges to ensure parts are safe for handling and meet quality and safety standards.
• Perform repetitive grinding and cleaning tasks throughout the shift while maintaining consistent quality and meeting production expectations.
• Measure finished parts using a tape measure and other gauges to verify that dimensions and specifications match work instructions and blueprints.
• Follow detailed work instructions, blueprints, and shop drawings to ensure parts are completed correctly and to customer and internal standards.
• Load materials and assist with the setup and operation of plasma tables, ensuring correct placement and handling of steel parts.
• Verify material types and dimensions before and after processing to ensure accuracy and correct job completion.
• Operate cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment as required to move large steel parts safely within the facility.
• Perform visual inspections on parts to identify quality issues, defects, or inconsistencies and promptly report any problems to the appropriate personnel.
• Lift and move steel parts weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift as part of the grinding and material handling process.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools, equipment, and materials.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment, and follow company policies for working in an industrial steel environment.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and interpret a tape measure accurately.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, blueprints, and shop drawings.
• Previous manufacturing experience.
• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Ability to perform repetitive work for the entire shift while maintaining quality and focus.
• Experience using hand grinders and angle grinders or similar finishing tools.
• Basic familiarity with grinding processes and working with steel parts.
• Ability to assist with setup and operation of plasma tables.
• Ability to verify material types and dimensions using measuring tools.
• Willingness and ability to train at another facility location as required.
• Ownership of steel toe boots suitable for an industrial environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a steel or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
• Experience operating cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment.
• Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment with seasonal temperature changes.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting parts and verifying dimensions.
• Reliability and strong attendance habits to support production schedules.
• Comfort performing physically demanding tasks, including standing, lifting, and repetitive motions for the duration of the shift.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large industrial steel warehouse that is not temperature controlled, so conditions can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The environment is highly industrial, with heavy steel parts, plasma tables, cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment in regular use. The position follows a mid-shift schedule of 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with initial training on first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for approximately three weeks. Work is physically demanding and repetitive, involving frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs, standing for most of the shift, and continuous use of grinding tools. Required attire includes steel toe boots and hard hats, with gloves and hearing protection provided. The environment emphasizes safety, proper use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to industrial safety practices.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.25 - $19.75/hr.
