Journeyman Electrician

ITG Communications is hiring a Journeyman Electrician in Raleigh, NC. The Journeyman Electrician - Transportation Systems is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and infrastructure in roadway and transportation environments. This role supports traffic operations, safety, and mobility through the installation and maintenance of field devices, signal systems, communication networks, and power distribution equipment in compliance with applicable codes, DOT standards, and project specifications. Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair electrical power and low-voltage systems in roadway and transportation environments Install, terminate, and test field equipment, including traffic signal cabinets and controllers (NEMA, ATC), CCTV cameras, detection systems, dynamic message signs (DMS/VMS), and roadside cabinets Perform conduit installation (PVC, rigid steel, and flexible), trenching coordination, wire pulls, cable routing, splicing, grounding, and bonding Install and connect power distribution systems, including panels, breakers, disconnects, transformers, and UPS systems Install, terminate, and test fiber optic, copper, and wireless communication systems Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and standard drawings to ensure accurate installation Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of electrical systems, communication networks, and field equipment Conduct system testing, commissioning, and field acceptance testing in accordance with project and agency requirements Ensure all work is performed in compliance with NEC, NESC, MUTCD, FHWA, state DOT standards, and local codes Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and routine service on installed systems and equipment Document work performed, including service reports, testing results, as-builts, and maintenance records Maintain safe work zones and traffic control setups in accordance with applicable safety standards Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and testing devices safely and effectively Coordinate daily work activities with supervisors, engineers, inspectors, and other trades Respond to service calls, outages, and emergency repair situations as needed Support system cutovers, turn-ups, and project closeout activities Mentor apprentices and support on-the-job training and skill development Key Measures / Key Performance Indicators Work completed correctly with minimal rework or deficiencies Tasks completed on time and in line with project schedules Adherence to safety policies with no preventable incidents Work meets applicable codes, standards, and passes inspections Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently Accurate and timely completion of work orders and reports Requirements Education High school diploma or GED required. Valid Driver's License and valid Journeyman Electrician license required. Experience 3-5+ years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician Experience in roadway, transportation, or outdoor infrastructure environments preferred Experience with electrical power distribution and low-voltage systems Exposure Exposure to outdoor job sites, roadway and traffic environments Exposure to electrical hazards, noise, dust, and construction conditions Work may involve night shifts, weekends, or on-call response Interaction with field teams, supervisors, inspectors, and other trades Factors critical to success at ITG Communications for this position Consistently performs work safely and in compliance with all applicable standards Demonstrates strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in the field Completes work accurately with minimal rework or supervision Manages time effectively to meet project deadlines and production goals Communicates clearly and works well with supervisors, team members, and other trades Maintains attention to detail and a high standard of workmanship Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally more with assistance Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods throughout the workday Ability to climb ladders, poles, and structures and maintain balance while working at elevated heights Ability to work in confined spaces such as cabinets, vaults, and underground enclosures Ability to use hands and arms for repetitive tasks, including handling tools, wiring, and equipment installation Ability to reach above shoulder level and work overhead for extended periods Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely and effectively Ability to see and distinguish colors for wiring and system identification Ability to hear and communicate effectively in noisy work environments Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind Ability to safely navigate active construction zones and roadway environments with moving traffic Ability to wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and high-visibility gear Additional Comments ITG is an equal employment opportunity employer.
