Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and southeastern Massachusetts. Department/Program: Addiction Services Reports To: Clinical Director or designee Supervisory Responsibilities: None Schedule: Sunday & Monday 3pm-11pm Job Summary Under the direction of the Clinical Director and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, the Counselor is responsible for providing clinical services including assessment, individual and group counseling, and case management services for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders and co‑occurring behavioral health disorders, in partnership with other providers across Bay Cove’s continuum of care as well as with external providers. The Counselor contributes to Bay Cove’s mission by providing trauma‑informed and person‑centered services to individuals in pursuit of their recovery goals. This is a non‑exempt position. Essential Functions of Position Provide a warm, welcoming, and safe environment while interacting with individuals to ensure service needs are met. Engage individuals to conduct interviews, develop comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, and establish individualized treatment plans within required timeframes. Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions in accordance with the individualized action plan and in alignment with evidence‑based curricula under the supervision of the Clinical Director. Complete all documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with agency and DPH/BSAS guidelines for format, timeliness, and quality assurance. Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team via active participation in team meetings, informing decision‑making regarding treatment planning by communicating observations regarding status changes and documenting these changes in Multidisciplinary Service Notes. Work with each individual toward completion of treatment, and identification of needed and desired transitional, discharge, and aftercare supports. Maintain records in compliance with agency and funder requirements. Provide daily programming that facilitates the stabilization of the individuals’ substance use and mental health symptoms, adherence to medication regimens, and connect to and/or participation in community‑based recovery supports. Provide timely and accurate communication and coordination of care with other providers, such as DCF, Probation, and DPH, with signed consent. Provide case management and engage in care consultation regarding specific individuals with identified collaterals with signed consent (e.g., relatives, social‑service agencies, housing authorities, health care providers, and vocational services providers). Actively participate in training, group and individual supervision, and other professional development opportunities with the goal of continual development of clinical skills. Provide crisis prevention and intervention, escalating to the appropriate party when assistance is needed (supervisor, AMCI team, etc.). All other job‑related duties as assigned. All BSAS licensed programs must have at least one staff member designated to serve as coordinator of one of the following three topics. If assigned, both supervisor and employee must initial to acknowledge the assignment: Serve as the program’s Access Coordinator by developing and implementing the evaluation, plan, and annual review of the program’s performance in ensuring equitable access to services as required by 105 CMR 164.040(A)(11). Serve as the program’s HIV/AIDS Coordinator by overseeing confidential HIV risk assessment and access to counseling and testing; staff and persons served HIV/AIDS and hepatitis education; and Department requirements for admission, service planning and discharge of HIV positive individuals. Serve as the program’s Tobacco Education Coordinator by assisting staff in implementing BSAS guidelines for integrating tobacco assessment, education and treatment into program services. Requirements for the position Bachelor’s Degree in social work or a closely related field. Minimum of one (1) year supervised counseling experience in either substance use or mental health use disorder counseling required. Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC I or LADC II), Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC), or Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC) preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of the substance use treatment continuum and services and related community resources/aftercare placement options preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing distress resulting from behavioral health issues required. Demonstrated use of appropriate independent judgment to determine appropriate course of action in resolving problems and in emergencies. At least intermediate proficiency with word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps required. Demonstrated clinical writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Physical Requirements Ongoing detection and interpretation of information on documents, monitors, and labels and accompanying response, as well as to identification of equipment and supplies. Frequent interaction with providers, colleagues, customers, persons served, and visitors requiring the employee to communicate, as well as detect and interpret information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, occasionally during emergency situations. Frequent communication of accurate information, instructions, and ideas so others will understand. Operation of complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent phone and computer use for documenting care of persons served, accessing needed information, etc. Bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment up to twenty (20) pounds. Frequent movement throughout the program to access, obtain, or distribute supplies (sometimes pushing or pulling equipment and climbing stairs) and interact with persons served, etc. Undertake lifesaving efforts by administering naloxone/conducting CPR via the provision of chest compressions and rescue breathing as needed until relieved by medical professionals. Requirement to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time as needed.
