Internal Medicine - Veterinary Technician

Position: Internal Medicine - Veterinary Technician Memphis Veterinary Specialists & Emergency, a PetVet Care Centers hospital located in Memphis, Tennessee, is seeking an Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician to support hospital operations and provide quality veterinary care. Position Overview As an Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician, you will support patient care by conducting examinations, administering medications, assisting during surgeries, maintaining medical records, and ensuring a safe, clean environment for patients and staff. Key Responsibilities Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, reviewing care plans, and completing laboratory and imaging studies. Collect vital signs, specimens, and administer medications, vaccines, and wound care. Assist with patient examinations and surgical procedures, including preparing supplies and restraining patients. Maintain accurate medical records and update the database in a timely manner. Communicate patient status to owners under veterinary guidance. Sanitize and disinfect holding and operating areas, and maintain sterile supplies and equipment. Prepare and dispense prescriptions, documenting controlled drug usage. Manage inventory, place orders for supplies, and verify receipts. Participate in educational opportunities to update clinical knowledge. Release pets to owners, ensuring cleanliness and proper grooming. Perform additional duties as assigned by management. Qualifications (Required) High school diploma or GED. Relevant experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients. Ability to work with sick animals, hazardous materials, anesthetics, and zoonotic diseases. Confidence and reassurance when handling stressed, ill, or painful patients. Professional and mature communication style. Physical stamina to lift, clean, and move frequently; may involve handling animals up to 50 lbs. Willingness to answer phones and perform administrative tasks as needed. Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT). Schedule Typical Monday‑Friday with rotating weekend coverage and 2‑hour department shifts. Weekday schedules are permanent; weekend shifts rotate monthly.
