Position Summary

The Assistant Construction Estimator prepares complete conceptual and detailed estimates for large, complex specialty foundation construction projects based on customer, engineer, and contract documents. The position develops accurate and competitive bid pricing for foundations, concrete, micropiling, and drilling work and supports business development, project handoff, and assigned project coordination. The ideal candidate is proficient in plan interpretation, quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, bid preparation, and client communication.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Estimating & Preconstruction

• Review requests for estimates, plans, specifications, contracts, and other bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs using plans, spreadsheets, and estimating software; verify field conditions onsite when needed.
• Prepare conceptual and detailed estimates, budgets, cost analyses, schedules of values, and proposals by calculating labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, freight, and overhead costs, including estimates where established standards are unavailable.
• Create and maintain the company's historical cost library and resource information for products, vendors, subcontractors, and applicable government requirements.
• Promptly report observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items, estimate information, or company cost databases to the Senior Estimator for SSI.
• Assist with contract review and negotiation and coordinate with the Project Coordinator to confirm required permits and submittals are in place.
• Provide clear job-specific scope details, assumptions, exclusions, pricing, and supporting information for project planning and handoff.
• Work directly with the Senior Estimator and collaborate with company leadership and project teams throughout the estimating process.

Business Development & Client Relations

• Contact and follow up with prospective leads, submitted bids, and pending opportunities; maintain contacts for futurework.
• Schedule and attend meetings with prospective clients to determine needed services and project requirements.
• Attend market outreach events, trade shows, lunch-and-learns, one-on-one meetings, networking events, and otherafter-hours work functions with contractors, engineers, and prospective clients.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with the Board of Directors, committees and commissions, owners, engineers,architects, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, employees, and residential and commercial clients.

Project Handoff & Assigned Project Coordination

• Collaborate with the Project Manager on preliminary project schedules and conduct project handoff meetings with theProject Manager and Superintendent.
• Serve as the designated point of contact and project liaison for assigned projects when required.
• Communicate with customers throughout assigned projects, confirm needs are addressed, and attend organizational orproject meetings as required.
• •Coordinate, as assigned, with managers, the Project Manager, Superintendent, Engineer, and general contractorregarding project schedules, equipment and material mobilization, and test installation scope, including mobilizationand demobilization.
• Retrieve and track pile installation information from foremen and assist with tracking invoices and change orders asassigned.
• Monitor jobsite quality and safety conditions during site visits, assist with required inspections, report concerns, andsupport a safe work environment.
• Assist with future projects, client development, and other duties as assigned.
