Summary About the Position: This position serves as an Electronics Mechanic position located at Fort Bragg, NC. Learn more about this agency Duties Help Troubleshoot tactical radio relay systems and satellite communication systems using advanced test equipment without requiring step-by-step guidance. Evaluate the performance of video display terminals, modems, and spectrum monitors to verify that systems adhere to required technical specifications. Train co-workers on the proper overhaul, installation, and modification procedures for specialized electronic assemblages and subsystems. Demonstrate the safe and accurate use of diagnostic tools, such as dual trace oscilloscopes and resistance bridges, to assist unit personnel in improving their repair skills. Maintain and prepare a wide variety of test sets, signal generators, and hand tools to ensure diagnostic accuracy and equipment availability for the shop. Coordinate the setup of electronic sub-systems, modules, and meteorological devices prior to maintenance to streamline the overhaul and repair process. Guide team members in the adjustment, maintenance, and repair of complex pulse control modulated (PCM) devices to ensure work is completed accurately and safely. Direct personnel during the installation and testing of major communication centrals and repeater systems to ensure all operational requirements and quality standards are met. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination. This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronics Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in installing and repairing complex electronic equipment and systems, such as tactical radios and satellite communication systems. I am experienced in using specialized electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes and signal generators, to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures and Repairing electronic components and sub-systems, such as amplifiers and power supplies, and providing technical guidance to other workers without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Provide Production Support Services Ability To: Inspect Instruct PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. Incumbent must frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 40 pounds; occasionally handles items up to 75 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Must work in a sitting position for extended periods. Standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside in well lighted, heated and ventilated areas. There is danger of burns or shock from high voltage and burns from soldering irons, radiation burns, cuts, bruises and burns from the use of hand tools and power driven machines. Subject to eye strain from working on miniaturized electronic components. Very good hand and eye coordination is required.
