Senior Transportation Engineer – Roadway
A nationally recognized engineering firm is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to support and lead roadway design efforts across Tennessee. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex transportation projects that improve long-term mobility and infrastructure performance.
The ideal candidate brings strong roadway design expertise, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary transportation teams.
Position Overview
The Senior Transportation Engineer will play a key role in roadway design and technical oversight. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements while contributing to high-quality project delivery across transportation corridors, structures, and related infrastructure systems.
This position offers flexibility to be based in Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Nashville, with periodic travel required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and review roadway design projects to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across transportation, traffic, structures, and related specialties
- Review and refine design documents to meet quality and technical standards
- Conduct site visits and support construction inspections as required
- Collaborate with business development teams on proposals and client engagement efforts
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and regulatory updates
Qualifications
• 8 plus years of progressive transportation or roadway design experience
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation standards
• Experience working within state DOT environments
• Professional Engineer license preferred
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Experience supporting or leading proposal development is a plus
