Senior Software Engineer, CMS Platform

Paramount Streaming • Technology & Engineering

Location: Burbank, CA / New York, NY/ San Francisco, CA • Full-Time (onsite)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, CMS to build and own the web experiences at the heart of our content management platform - shipping high-quality code across a polyglot stack that powers Paramount+, Pluto TV, and CBS.com. This is a frontend-leaning full-stack role: you'll spend most of your time crafting fast, resilient, server-rendered React applications, and you'll own features end to end - from the component layer down through the APIs and data model that back them; along with event driven messaging for external integrations.

Responsibilities
• Build and evolve server-rendered React applications: design high-quality, accessible, performant UIs with Next.js and modern React, with server-side rendering (SSR) at the core of how we deliver fast first-load experiences at streaming scale.
• Own component architecture: establish and champion clean, reusable component patterns and shared design conventions that scale across the codebase and keep the team moving quickly.
• Drive web performance: measure and improve Core Web Vitals, rendering strategy, bundle size, caching, and load performance - and set the standards other engineers follow.
• Deliver features end to end: design complete solutions that span the frontend and the services behind it - building and evolving REST APIs in Java/Spring Boot and modeling the data with PostgreSQL (entities, schema, migrations) that power those experiences.
• Develop the API and data layer: build the Node.js and Spring Boot service layers that connect the frontend to the platform, with an eye to clean contracts and clear boundaries that also supports external clients through messaging.
• Improve developer experience and quality: raise the bar on testing, observability, tooling, and team processes - making the whole team faster, the codebase healthier and reduce technical debt
• Ownership: take ownership of small to medium projects from design through production, coach colleagues, and help codify expertise - including clear, agent-readable docs and conventions - so both people and AI agents can ramp quickly.
• Mentorship: mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing including effective AI-augmented workflows
• Collaboration: collaborate with stakeholders and partner teams to ensure seamless integrations and cohesive experiences
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident resolution and RCAs
• Help grow the team through interviewing and onboarding new members

Required Qualifications
• BS in Comp Science or related field, or equivalent applicable experience
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong React expertise, with production experience building server-rendered applications (SSR) using Next.js or a similar framework.
• Deep frontend fundamentals: component architecture, TypeScript, state management, and a genuine command of web performance and accessibility.
• Full-stack range: comfort building the services behind the UI - Node.js and/or Java/Spring Boot REST APIs - and modeling data in a relational database such as PostgreSQL (entities, schema design, migrations).
• End-to-end ownership: a track record of taking features from design through production, and the judgment to make sound architectural tradeoffs across the stack.
• Senior-level collaboration: strong communication, a habit of mentoring, and the ability to set patterns others adopt.
• Technical writing: comfort producing clear design documentation and conventions.

Preferred
• Strong exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS etc.)
• Good experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps/CICD practices & tools
• Experience with message brokers (Kafka, GCP Pub/Sub) / event driven messaging systems
• Experience with search tools like Solr and Elasticsearch

Nice-to-Have

Familiarity with content management domains, media/streaming, or other high-traffic consumer platforms.

• Daily fluency with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot - we provide licenses). Agents draft, you direct and review. You know how to prompt effectively, when to trust the output, and how to catch what it gets wrong.
• Judgment over autopilot: you review agent-generated code critically, hold the quality bar, and can explain your reasoning. As a senior engineer, you'll help shape how the team uses these tools well - encoding conventions, setting review patterns for agent-generated code, and mentoring juniors on judgment.
• Exposure to building agentic workflows developing systems where AI agents take on multi-step tasks with the right guardrails.
• Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar approaches for connecting AI agents to tools, data, and services.
• Exposure to multi-agent orchestration and emerging agentic patterns.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $124,000.00 - 186,000.00.


The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
