The Role

HII is seeking a Corporate Communications Media Manager to support the corporate communications media relations team. This role will report to HIIs media liaison to Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) and will support aligned responsive public affairs and media strategies across the enterprise specifically for NNS and Ingalls Shipbuilding. Based on-site and in-person in Newport News Virginia this position gives the candidate the opportunity to work daily with shipbuilders and communicators across HII to help advance the companys reputation and mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

In partnership with HIIs earned media team you will:

• Curate write and edit content for public distribution related to shipbuilding national security and the HII mission
• Support the development of digital content for external internal and social platforms
• Maintain content across HII external and internal media channels ensuring accuracy timeliness and alignment with enterprise strategies
• Develop creative compelling content to support HIIs communication efforts that highlight the people programs and innovations that define HII
• Support crisis communication planning and response efforts
• Develop communication and security plans for media visits and support on-site media engagements
• Collaborate daily with teammates across the enterprise including occasional travel to support major milestone events and trade shows

What Youll Do As Part of the HII Corporate Communications Team:

• Strengthen understanding of HIIs mission workforce and industry to foster positive relationships with media stakeholders and the public
• Support enterprise reputation program capture efforts and strategic business initiatives
• Provide communications support for major ship milestones
• Help attract top talent by communicating the scale purpose and opportunity of the HII mission in service of those who protect our freedom

Must Have

Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline (or the equivalent in education training and experience) plus 6 years of applicable progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; OR

Masters degree and 4 years relevant experience

• Experience in the defense and aeronautical industry
• Media relations and issues management
• Strong writing editing and storytelling skills
• AP Style proficiency
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment and manage 24-hour news cycle
