School Bus Driver

Ensure safe transportation for students.

Representative duties and responsibilities include:

• Providing safe and proper transportation for eligible students assigned by the Division of Transportation.
• Properly conducting pre/post-trip inspections.
• Properly using appropriate lights and/or warning signals.
• Following proper procedures for loading, unloading, crossing highways, securing staff and assuring all students are safely away from the bus before continuing on route.
• Properly maneuvering the bus including backing and using mirrors.
• Assisting in safety training for all students on assigned route.
• Transporting the bus for established maintenance schedule.
• Properly greeting students.
• Demonstrating proper use of seat belts.
• Maintaining proper speed limits and obeying all posted signs.
• Properly following procedures at R/R crossings.
• Maintaining control of student behavior.
• Maintaining a positive attitude and enthusiasm in a professional manner.
• Dressing neat and appropriately.
• Meeting medical requirements to qualify for bus driver including successful completion of a physical.
• Demonstrating knowledge of the job, use of good mature judgment and enthusiasm about the job.
• Demonstrating proper care of the bus, including cleanliness, checking fluid levels, etc.
• Communicating and establishing a positive relationship with students, parents and school administrators.
• Providing all route information, accident reports and other information to the Transportation Department.
• Attending all in-service safety meetings as required.
• Possessing and maintaining valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
• Following work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
• Participating in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
• Reviewing current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensuring adherence to good safety procedures.
• Following federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
• Performing other duties as required.
