CHHASSEM Project ManagerThe Center for History, Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Ethics in Medicine (CHHASSEM) is a multidisciplinary center founded in 2025 and housed within the Medical School. The Center's mission is to use interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to improve health and make healthcare practice, policy, and work more just, equitable and humane. The Center aims to de-marginalize approaches and disciplines currently considered ?soft? parts of medicine, so they may come to be understood as central and essential. CHHASSEM is a home for anyone within Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan more broadly who is interested in centering lessons from history, humanities, arts, social sciences, and bioethics to deepen our understanding of health, illness, and care delivery and to amplify the promise of biomedicine. CHHASSEM asks an aspirational question, what could healthcare become.This position provides project management for CHHASSEM programs and research projects. The Project Manager has a lead role in implementing and evaluating the CHHASSEM strategic plan and the multidisciplinary programs comprising the strategic plan. Programs include a Health Justice Program, a Michigan Creative Health System project, a Theatre and Health Ensemble, a CHHASSEM speaker series, and convening CHHASSEM affiliates, among a range of other programming. The Project Manager writes grants, helps develop programs, and contributes to CHHASSEM?s growth as a center. The person in this position will also supervise CHHASSEM staff, including research associates and other staff.Working collaboratively with the CHHASSEM Director, Managing Director and the entire CHHASSEM Leadership team, responsibilities include:Oversee researchers and staff engaged in day-to-day program and project operations.Serve as a central point-of-contact for multiple CHHASSEM programs.Manage research project logistics, including accurate and timely tracking and reporting.In collaboration with CHHASSEM Area Directors and faculty leads, develop and implement program activities.Lead and coordinate with all staff and project personnel to create, report on, and evaluate strategic plan progress and deliverables.Maintain, evaluate, and improve processes and systems for reporting and communication among diverse stakeholders and community partners.Write grant proposals.Oversee grant administration, including IRB applications and reports.Manage the implementation of grant-funded projects and pre- and post-award activities.Collaborate with the CHHASSEM Business and Finance Manager to help oversee financial management of grant awards.Supervise research associates and other research project staff.Provide coaching and feedback.Develop professional development goals.Conduct performance reviews.Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of staff.Conduct staff 1:1 check-in meetings.Participate in monthly CHHASSEM manager meeting.Coordinate the formulation and implementation of new programs as needed.Collaborate with the CHHASSEM Director and Managing Director on work with the Michigan Medicine Office of Development.Assist administrative staff with event planning, implementation, and follow-up.Collaborate with staff and leadership to help draft program-related communications as needed.If/as needed, willingness to engage in a flexible work schedule to attend early morning meetings and/or late meetings and eventsOther responsibilities and/or projects as assignedRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degreeFive or more years of professional experience in project coordination or project managementDemonstrated experience managing complex research or grant-funded projectsPrevious supervisory experiencePrevious experience managing stakeholder relationshipsOutstanding organizational skills and ability to effectively manage numerous projects, simultaneously and in various stages of development, with exceptional attention to detail.Ability to analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of job responsibilities; ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.Self-starter who is eager to work in a start-up environmentMust have strong integrity, be highly proactive, have a high degree of problem-solving skills, be highly reliable, retain a sense of ownership and accountability for workload, be flexible and resilient, comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty, provide excellent customer service, and possess expert follow-up skills.Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with and build professional relationships with all individuals at all levels; appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.Proficient computer skills are essential, including demonstrated proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe PDFs, survey tools such as Qualtrics and Google Forms, and ZoomMust be productive and flexible under pressure and able to meet deadlines.Desired Qualifications:Masters degree in public health, social work, or other relevant field.Knowledge of University practices, rules and regulations.University research administration experience, ideally within a U-M research center.Experience working with community-based organizations on health justice, health equity, multidisciplinary health research.Experience and interest in working with students and learners of all levels of education.
