Public Parks Carpenter & Facilities Technician

Job Summary: Performs entry‑level carpentry maintenance and construction work on City facilities to maintain buildings and structures in good repair. Essential Functions Assist, support, and participate in carpentry work with crew chief in fabrication and maintenance of wood structures and equipment; assemble stages and risers for special events; provide maintenance and woodworking expertise. Participate in building maintenance activities including repair and replacement of doors, frames, locks, masonry repair, tile repair, modular office furniture, and restroom partition repair; ensure safe, effective, and fully operational facilities and equipment. Install and repair chain link fences; monitor and repair park structures and other wood facilities. Assist with carpentry maintenance including minor cabinetmaking, woodwork, and drywall work to make needed building repairs or additions. Construct barricades for traffic control at public events; perform concrete work to construct sidewalks and retaining walls. Calculate bids and determine carpentry supplies; read floorplans; measure jobs. Assist with other trades as needed to maintain and repair buildings or structures; provide assistance and support with seasonal maintenance of facilities ensuring good repair, safety, and functionality. Perform any and all other work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of power tools and proper usage. Basic knowledge of construction practices. Basic knowledge of general carpentry and woodworking. Ability to use carpenter's hand tools, saws, and electric sanders. Ability to read blueprints. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Required Experience One (1) year of carpentry and/or general construction experience. License(s) and/or Certification(s) Valid driver's license with good driving record. Some positions may require ability to obtain Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the probationary period. Other Requirements Subject to overtime work and inclement weather conditions. Salary Range $21.67 - $23.60 per hour.
