Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II

The County of Colusa is looking for compassionate and skilled Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurses I/II to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to provide quality nursing care within the Colusa County Jail while also supporting the California Home Visiting Program (CHVP), providing nursing and case management services to at-risk families in their homes.

This is a full-time position with a 37.5 workweek. The tentative schedule consists of 12.5 hour day shifts, either MondayWednesday or WednesdayFriday. All schedules include Wednesday shifts at the correctional facility. Work schedules may be adjusted to meet the department's operational needs and may occasionally include varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays to cover absences by other staff.

There is one (1) position available that can be filled at any level, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicants. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list to fill other openings without reposting.

In this role, the employee delivers hands-on nursing care to support the physical and well-being of patients and inmates, with the primary work location being the Colusa County Jail. Responsibilities include administering medications, monitoring vital signs, treating wounds, responding to medical emergencies, and coordinating care with healthcare providers. The position also involves maintaining accurate medical records, assisting with admissions and discharges, and helping ensure a safe and clean environment. At the II level, the employee may work more independently, exercise greater judgment in patient care, and provide guidance or lead support to other nursing staff. In addition to supporting Jail Health operations, this position provides nursing and case management support for the California Home Visiting Program (CHVP), working with families in their homes to promote healthy child development and effective parenting skills. The Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurse also serves as supplemental nursing coverage for Jail Health operations, helping ensure continuity of care and operational flexibility.

Supervision & Examples of Duties

Receives general supervision from the Institutional Supervising Registered Nurse or other designated supervisory nursing or management staff.

May provide functional or lead direction to assigned staff.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurse I

Experience: One year of professional experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a public or private health care setting, or related experience.

Experience working in a 24-hour psychiatric or adult correctional facility is desirable.

Training: Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program.

Institutional Licensed Vocational Nurse II

Experience: Two years or more of professional experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a public or private health care or correctional facility setting.

Experience in a 24-hour psychiatric or adult correctional facility is desirable.

Training: Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program.

Licenses and Special Requirements (Both Levels):

Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Possession of a valid and current Licensed Vocational Nurse license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

Completion of required continuing education to maintain licensure.

Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a National Provider Identifier (NPI).

Possession of a valid CPR certification.

Successful completion of an extensive and thorough law enforcement background investigation and maintenance of clearance while employed.

Salary Information (based on a 37.5-hour work week) Institutionalized LVN I : $4,812 $7,894 monthly Institutionalized LVN I : : $5,314 $8,713 monthly The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
