Industrial Hygienist

The incumbent serves as the network Industrial Hygienist for the VA New England Healthcare System providing safety program management, planning, network oversight, standardization and coordination of program activities and staff education as well as training network wide. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assists the Quality Management Office and the Safety Manager develop and implement the network Emergency Management Program;
• Coordinates the development of policies and guidelines concerning industrial hygiene and occupational health requirements;
• Develops and delivers specialized courses in industrial hygiene and occupational health for professional safety and industrial hygiene staff;
• Consults with facility management regarding the status and implementation of industrial hygiene and occupational health initiatives at the local level;
• Assists the Safety Manager in conducting the industrial hygiene and occupational health program portions of the Annual Workplace Evaluations to evaluate each facility's programs for complying with applicable OSHA regulations and other requirements;
• Works with facility officials regarding the implementation or modification of mandatory industrial hygiene programs;
• Provides expert advice and assistance at all levels of an organization in overcoming or minimizing the adverse effects of industrial hygiene and occupational health problems;
• Develops, plans, coordinates and evaluates a comprehensive industrial hygiene and occupational health program;
• Provides assistance in developing specialized procedures for a wide-range of programs (including those that deal with hazardous material management, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, hazardous drugs, waste anesthetic gases/vapors, personal exposure monitoring, laboratory safety, asbestos, confined space entry, noise/hearing conservation, indoor air quality and personal protective clothing and equipment including respiratory protection, etc);
• Assists the Quality Management Officer and Safety Manager by preparing network level reports and working on special projects as necessary; and
• Performs other duties as required.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
