HOUSING INSPECTOR

Location 871 W Oakland Park, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33311, USA Travel Required: Yes Social Services Full-Time Requisition #: HOUSI002283 Description As a Housing Inspector, you will conduct inspections and enforce Housing Quality Standards (HQS) for private sector rental units under various federally funded programs such as Section8, HOPWA, PHP, STRMU, Rapid Rehousing, and Permanent Supportive Housing. Your responsibilities include inspection coordination, conflict mediation, documentation, reporting, and training of other staff. Key Responsibilities Coordinate Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) inspections. Conduct HQS inspections, special inspections, re‑inspections, and other inspections as required. Mediate and resolve landlord‑tenant issues. Explain standards and regulations to landlords and tenants to promote good relations. Ensure inspection data is entered into the system promptly. Communicate with landlords, property management, and private owners to schedule inspections. Prepare weekly inspection reports and submit to supervisor. Maintain a pull of property management, landlords, and private owners. Interpret and apply PCHA policies, federal regulations, and related procedures. Provide guidance to other HCV staff on inspection results and documentation. Assist in training other employees in HQS regulations and PCHA policies. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Maintain health and safety guidelines, including HIPAA, CDC hand‑washing, Emergency Code System, and Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP). Team collaboration and training facilitation. Adaptability to high‑pressure environments and diverse communities. Job Specifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience: Minimum two years related experience in housing case management, affordable housing, or similar; training in HIV/AIDS preferred. Licenses & Certifications: Valid Florida driver’s license; must pass the HQS Inspector certification exam within one year of employment. Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); HMIS, CASEWATCH Provide Enterprise, NEXTGEN, and Care Resource phone system knowledge is a plus. Languages: Bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Creole required. Other: Own transportation required; local travel as needed. Physical Requirements Frequent sitting, bending, standing, walking, and talking in person and on the phone. Occasional driving, stretching/reaching, and lifting up to 50 lb. work performed in an office setting.
