Join Our Team Fernbrook Family Center is a growing community mental health agency serving children, adults, and families throughout southeastern and central Minnesota. We are seeking a Diagnostic Assessment (DA) Writer to complete comprehensive mental health diagnostic assessments that support access to services and guide treatment planning. This position is ideal for a licensed mental health professional who enjoys clinical interviewing, diagnostic formulation, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Position Summary The Diagnostic Assessment (DA) Writer is responsible for conducting comprehensive mental health diagnostic assessments for children, adults, and families to determine medical necessity and eligibility for mental health services. This role requires strong clinical interviewing, diagnostic formulation, documentation, and collaboration skills while ensuring all assessments meet state, payer, and agency standards for quality and timeliness. What You’ll Do Complete comprehensive diagnostic assessments to determine eligibility and medical necessity for mental health services. Gather clinical information through interviews, record reviews, standardized assessment tools, and collateral contacts. Develop accurate DSM diagnoses and clinical recommendations based on assessment findings. Complete documentation that meets agency, payer, and regulatory standards for quality, accuracy, and timeliness. Meet established productivity expectations for diagnostic assessments. Collaborate with therapists, case managers, practitioners, schools, medical providers, and other community partners to coordinate care. Consult with supervisors and clinical leadership regarding complex diagnostic presentations as needed. Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, and continuing education activities. Complete a minimum of 30 hours of mental health-related continuing education every two years, in addition to any licensing board requirements. Represent Fernbrook Family Center professionally and uphold the organization's mission, values, and policies. Perform other duties as assigned. What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications Current Minnesota licensure as one of the following: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Licensed Psychologist (LP) Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting documentation deadlines. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to ethical practice, professional boundaries, and continuous learning. Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and an acceptable driving record if community travel is required. Ability to successfully pass a criminal background study in accordance with Minnesota Department of Human Services requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience completing diagnostic assessments. Experience working with children, adults, and families. Bilingual skills are encouraged. Why Join Fernbrook? Frequent computer use. Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds. Schedule Flexible work hours, generally between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Full-time salaried position (40–43 hours per week). Some travel between Fernbrook offices or community locations may be required based on business needs.
