SUMMARY OF POSITION: A Youth Program Facilitator works 4-8 hours a week to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for youth in afterschool and lunch-time settings. This role leads team-building activities, facilitates small and large group discussions, and provides one-on-one support to help youth build social, emotional, and life skills. The facilitator serves as a positive role model and mentor while ensuring program activities are fun, structured, and developmentally appropriate utilizing the current afterschool model. The Facilitator works under the supervision of the Youth Outreach Director and works with the Youth Outreach Program Coordinator to organize logistics and supplies. The facilitator upholds and supports the vision and direction of the Youth Outreach Department. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Key Result Area #1: Programs and Services Attends and leads Youth Outreach programs (Young Club, You Club, Youth Leadership Training, Lunch Groups and Youth Mentoring). Effectively communicates and interacts with other supporting departments to accomplish common goals. Regularly participates in department meetings and trainings. Routinely communicates with the Youth Outreach Director about vision, mission and logistics of programs. Key Result Area #2: Staff and Volunteers Knows volunteer application and training process and is trained to equip their volunteers for purposeful service. Knows how to cast the vision of the Youth Outreach Department to volunteers. Works with the Program Coordinator to oversee the progress of the volunteers’ effectiveness and satisfaction in the prescribed volunteer position. Key Result Area #3: Financial, Administrative, Operations In partnership with the Youth Outreach Director, provides regular stories and updates to the Development Department. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Committed Christian, able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry for the poor, homeless, drug addicted and mentally ill. Grounded in the Christian faith as a mature, active member of the body of Christ. In accordance with Union Gospel Mission Statement of Purpose, Statement of Vision and Statement of Faith Strong Interpersonal skills - exercise compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ. Able and willing, as a unified team member, to honor the leadership, chain of command, and standards and ministry objectives of Union Gospel Mission. Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Office 365, UKG timekeeping, Virtuous CRM); able to complete documents, reports and accurately record information. Willing to continue education as needed or required. Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and instructional. Enjoys behind the scenes work and can also lead from the front. Some experience in kids & youth ministry or similar field. Must have a teachable spirit and the ability manage multiple emotional and task related variables, listen, and make sound decisions in alignment with UGM’s purpose. Minimum ten years of sobriety, if in recovery. Insightful, trustworthy, honest, reliable, model appropriate boundaries, and strong work ethic. Valid Washington or Idaho driver’s license– required CPR/First Aid certification – required – will provide training WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS: Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100% Work is primarily indoors and may require climbing three flights of stairs, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and going from building to building - Continuously Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all of the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis – Frequently Requires the ability to hear, see, and speak clearly – Continuously Requires travelling to program locations – Continuously Requires operating UGM vehicles - Occasionally EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Experience in youth or similar ministry 2+ year’s prior related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience REQUIREMENTS Union Gospel Mission is a privately funded 501 (c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry.
