The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and profitable estimates and proposals for industrial construction, maintenance, mechanical, fabrication, and field-service projects.

This position will review customer requirements, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and site conditions; develop labor and material takeoffs; obtain vendor pricing; determine equipment and subcontractor requirements; and prepare complete project estimates and proposals.

The Estimator will work closely with Account Managers, Project Management, Operations, Field Supervision, and the customer to ensure estimates accurately reflect the scope of work and the Company's ability to safely and successfully execute the project.

The ideal candidate has strong industrial maintenance and construction knowledge, understands labor productivity and project execution, and can identify both opportunities and risks before a proposal is submitted.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Estimating & Proposal Development

• Review plans, specifications, drawings, customer scopes, bid documents, and other project information.
• Develop detailed labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project cost estimates.
• Perform accurate quantity and material takeoffs.
• Develop labor-hour estimates based on project scope, crew composition, productivity, and site      conditions.
• Establish appropriate equipment and tooling requirements.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Identify project-specific requirements, exclusions, assumptions, and potential cost impacts.
• Develop pricing that meets Company margin objectives while remaining competitive in the marketplace.
• Prepare professional proposals, bid forms, scopes of work, and supporting documentation.
• Review completed estimates for accuracy and completeness before submission.
• Maintain estimating documentation and supporting backup for all major bids.
• Participate in bid reviews and estimate turnover meetings.

Project & Scope Analysis

• Identify gaps, ambiguities, conflicts, and risks within customer bid documents.
• Develop and document clear scope assumptions and exclusions.
• Identify potential change-order opportunities before and during the estimating process.
• Evaluate constructability and project execution requirements.
• Consider site access, mobilization, manpower, scheduling, safety requirements, permits, materials, equipment, and other project-specific factors.
• Coordinate with Operations and Project Management to validate labor and execution assumptions.
• Visit project sites when necessary to develop accurate estimates.

Business Development Support

• Work closely with Business Development and Account Managers to develop proposals that address customer needs.
• Participate in customer meetings and pre-bid meetings as required.
• Assist sales personnel in developing budgets, ROM estimates, and proposal strategies.
• Provide estimating support for customer presentations and scope reviews.
• Develop pricing strategies that support both revenue growth and Company profitability.
• Help identify additional work opportunities and cross-selling opportunities within existing customer accounts.

Estimating & Pricing Controls

• Maintain current labor rates, material pricing, equipment rates, subcontractor pricing, and other estimating data.
• Maintain historical cost and productivity information.
• Track bid results and compare estimated costs to actual project performance.
• Assist in developing and maintaining estimating databases and cost history.
• Continuously improve estimating methods, templates, and processes.
• Communicate significant estimating risks or margin concerns to management before bids are submitted.

Project Turnover

• Participate in formal estimate-to-operations turnover meetings for awarded projects.
• Clearly communicate project scope, assumptions, labor requirements, material requirements, schedule      considerations, and identified risks.
• Provide project teams with complete estimating backup.
• Assist Project Management and Operations with questions related to the original estimate.
• Support post-project review and estimate-versus-actual analysis.

Required

• 3+ years of estimating experience in industrial construction, mechanical construction, fabrication, maintenance, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of industrial construction methods and field execution.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, structural drawings, and other technical documents.
• Strong understanding of labor productivity and crew requirements.
• Ability to perform detailed material and labor takeoffs.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Operations and Business Development.

Preferred

• Experience estimating industrial maintenance projects.
• Experience with mechanical piping, structural steel, welding, fabrication, equipment installation, millwright work, or industrial construction.
• Experience with T&M, unit-price, lump-sum, and negotiated work.
• Experience with estimating software such as Bluebeam, HeavyBid, HCSS, Sage, or similar platforms.
• Experience working directly with industrial customers.
• OSHA, NCCER, or other relevant industry credentials.
• Experience developing estimates for shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance projects.

This position primarily operates in an office environment but will require travel to customer facilities, construction sites, fabrication facilities, and project locations. The position may require occasional work outside normal business hours to meet customer bid deadlines. Travel requirements will vary based on project activity and customer requirements.
