POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Loan Originator to join our team. This individual will be responsible for sourcing, structuring, and closing mezzanine loans and preferred equity investments secured by commercial real estate. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a proven track record of originating CRE debt, cultivating borrower and intermediary relationships, and executing transactions from initial sourcing through closing. This role places a strong emphasis on relationship building and proactive deal sourcing.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Deal Sourcing & Relationship Management Proactively source mezzanine loan and preferred equity investment opportunities through direct borrower outreach, mortgage brokers, intermediaries, and industry relationships Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of commercial real estate lending opportunities across property types including multifamily, office, industrial, retail, hospitality, and mixed‑use Cultivate and deepen relationships with sponsors, developers, senior lenders, mortgage brokers, investment sales professionals, and other capital markets participants Represent the firm at industry conferences, networking events, and trade organizations to expand market presence and brand visibility Serve as primary point of contact for borrowers, senior lenders and intermediaries throughout the transaction lifecycle Evaluate and screen prospective mezzanine loan opportunities for alignment with firm investment criteria and risk parameters Prepare preliminary deal summaries, indicative term sheets, and investment memoranda for internal review and credit committee approval Collaborate with underwriting, legal, and asset management teams to structure and negotiate loan terms, covenants, and documentation Manage the due diligence process including coordination of third‑party reports, appraisals, environmental assessments, and legal review Drive transactions from origination through closing, ensuring timely execution and adherence to internal processes Monitor commercial real estate market trends, capital markets activity, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities and inform origination strategy Provide regular reporting on pipeline activity, market conditions, and deal flow to senior leadership Contribute to the development and refinement of lending programs, pricing frameworks, and origination processesREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 2 years of direct experience originating commercial real estate loans, with demonstrated expertise in mezzanine debt, subordinate financing, or preferred equity Established network of borrower, sponsor, and intermediary relationships within the commercial real estate debt markets Strong understanding of CRE mezzanine and subordinate lending structures, including intercreditor arrangements, subordination agreements, and cash flow waterfalls Proven ability to source, negotiate, and close CRE debt transactions independently Solid credit and analytical skills with the ability to evaluate property‑level cash flows, sponsor financial strength, and market fundamentals Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex transactions clearly to internal stakeholders Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business Administration, or a related field Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with CRE financial modeling and valuation techniquesPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience at a debt fund, specialty finance company, mezzanine lender, or bridge lending platform Track record of originating $50M+ in annual loan volume Familiarity with CMBS, CLO, debt fund and bank structures Active participation in industry organizations such as MBA, CREFC, and NHMCWHAT WE OFFER
