Substitute Bus Attendant

Substitute transportation shifts and locations are based on the needs of the employer. Substitutes are contacted for shifts as-needed and are not eligible for the regular benefits due to a full-time employee.

Essential Duties
  • Assist in the safe transportation of students on assigned routes.
  • Support the driver with student supervision, behavior, and safety.
  • Help students with seating, seat belts, mobility devices, and other safety equipment.
  • Assist students with personal care needs as required.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized bus environment.
  • Perform a pre-trip on the interior of the bus.
  • Communicate student concerns with supervisors, school staff, and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to work with students with special needs.
  • Ability to safely operate specialized transportation equipment.
  • Strong communication, judgment, patience, and organizational skills.
  • Dependable with a satisfactory attendance record.
  • Successfully complete required background and DCS clearances.
  • Remain drug- and alcohol-free and participate in required testing.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements necessary to safely assist students during transportation, typically involving some combination of standing, walking, sitting, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (25 pounds).

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation. The employee is expected to adhere to and agrees to adhere to all PTS Core Values, the PTS Strategic Plan, as well as PTS District policies and guidelines including but not limited to the civility policy.
