The Medical Billing Specialist plays a critical role within the billing team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of medical claims and patient billing. Reporting to the Practice Manager, this position demands keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills to maintain compliance and optimize revenue cycle operations. Candidates must be adept in insurance verification, denial management, and customer communication, contributing to the smooth functioning of the medical billing process without travel requirements. Possible remote position.

 

Responsibilities

• Process and submit medical claims accurately and timely
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients
• Maintain thorough and compliant billing documentation
• Manage patient billing inquiries and statements
• Post payments and reconcile accounts
• Handle denial management and appeals
• Ensure compliance with all billing regulations and HIPAA standards
• Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and staff

 

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in medical billing, Georgia billing knowledge, pediatric billing knowledge
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Medical Billing Certification
• Knowledge of medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT)
• Familiarity with billing software such as Athena
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Proficient in problem solving and data entry
• Understanding of HIPAA compliance
