About the Role:

The RN Float Nights Medical Surgical position is a critical nursing role that provides comprehensive patient care across various medical-surgical units during night shifts. This role requires adaptability to float between different units, ensuring continuity of care and maintaining high standards of patient safety and comfort. The nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams. The position demands strong clinical judgment and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies and changing patient needs during overnight hours. Ultimately, the RN Float Nights Medical Surgical nurse plays a vital role in supporting hospital operations by delivering expert nursing care and promoting positive patient outcomes throughout the night shift.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in a medical-surgical nursing setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to work night shifts and float between different medical-surgical units as needed.
• Strong knowledge of nursing principles, patient care standards, and hospital protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Experience working in a float nurse capacity or across multiple medical-surgical units.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and documentation software.
• Additional certifications such as Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN).
• Demonstrated skills in patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care to patients in various medical-surgical units during night shifts, adapting to different unit protocols and patient populations.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and implement prescribed treatments accurately and safely.
• Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized care plans.
• Respond promptly to patient emergencies and changes in condition, utilizing critical thinking and clinical skills to stabilize and support patients.
• Document all nursing interventions, patient responses, and clinical observations thoroughly and in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Educate patients and their families regarding care plans, medications, and post-discharge instructions to promote recovery and prevent complications.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff during night shifts.
