Mott MacDonald is seeking a Thermal Transition Leader to lead and grow our Southwest Energy business across California and the Southwest. This is a senior leadership role responsible for building and scaling a thermal transition practice focused on natural gas infrastructure, gas-fired power generation, carbon capture, CO₂ transportation, and broader energy transition opportunities.Reporting within the Southwest Division Energy leadership team, this individual will be responsible for driving business growth, developing strategic client relationships, leading project delivery, and building a high-performing team of technical professionals. The successful candidate will serve as a visible leader within the energy market while helping position Mott MacDonald as a trusted partner to utilities, developers, owners, and operators navigating the evolving energy landscape.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the development and execution of Mott MacDonald's thermal transition growth strategy across the Southwest region.Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key clients, industry partners, and stakeholders throughout the energy sector.Serve as Client Director for strategic accounts, identifying opportunities to expand existing relationships and secure new business.Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities and support major project pursuits from positioning through contract award.Represent Mott MacDonald within the energy marketplace and help strengthen the firm's brand and market presence.Provide technical leadership for projects involving gas-fired power generation, natural gas infrastructure, CO₂ transportation systems, carbon capture, and related energy transition initiatives.Establish and maintain technical standards, engineering best practices, quality processes, and design guidance for project teams.Provide leadership and accountability for project delivery, ensuring successful outcomes related to quality, schedule, profitability, client satisfaction, and resource utilization.Work closely with project managers, technical directors, discipline leaders, and regional leadership to ensure successful execution of major programs.Lead, mentor, and develop a growing team of engineers, project managers, and technical specialists.Support recruitment, workforce planning, succession planning, career development, and technical capability growth.Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence.Drive collaboration across Mott MacDonald's North America and global Energy businesses to leverage expertise, share best practices, and pursue major opportunities.Candidate QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.Significant experience in the energy, power generation, natural gas, pipeline, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.Proven success leading and growing an engineering, consulting, or project delivery practice.Demonstrated ability to develop and execute market growth strategies and achieve revenue growth objectives.Strong track record of winning, leading, and delivering major infrastructure or energy projects.Experience building trusted relationships with executive-level clients and industry stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and develop future leaders.Strong commercial acumen with experience managing business performance, project profitability, and operational excellence.Technical expertise in one or more areas including gas-fired generation, natural gas infrastructure, CO₂ transportation, carbon capture, thermal transition, or broader energy transition programs.Established industry relationships with utilities, developers, independent power producers, EPC organizations, energy infrastructure owners, or industrial clients.Experience collaborating across regional, national, or global organizations is highly desirable.Bring your expertise, curiosity, and drive to make a difference.
