Engineer II - Energetics & Propulsion (Onsite) (AZ)

Location and Security Clearance Location: Tucson, AZ. U.S. citizenship is required. An active, transferable DoD U.S. government‑issued security clearance (Secret) is required prior to the start date. Job Overview Engineers in the Energetics and Propulsion Department develop and integrate advanced propulsion systems for missile and space vehicle products. The role spans conceptual design to production, includes project and subcontract management, and requires strong collaboration with program management, subcontractors, and government agencies. Responsibilities Apply advanced technologies and scientific principles to the systems integration of propulsion, thrusters, controllers, software, mechanical, and electrical interfaces for missile and space vehicle platforms. Participate in both development and production programs across Raytheon product lines. Review manufacturing processes, resolve problems, and work directly with subcontractors on the design and manufacturing of solid rocket motor propulsion systems. Collaborate with program management on long‑range program planning for new or emerging propulsion technologies, serving as a key spokesperson on technical capabilities and future directions. Manage propulsion system development projects and propulsion subcontracts; review and disposition subcontract data and change requests; oversee supplier operations. Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies. Interface frequently with the customer to identify user needs and ensure product alignment. Act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational missile programs, contributing to new business opportunities. Travel internationally as required to support supplier and customer engagement. Qualifications Required Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM). Experience in the development of solid propulsion systems from conceptual design through final test/assembly. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance. Preferred Four or more years of directly related experience in propulsive technology and its application to solid or liquid, or mono‑propellant propulsion systems. Systems knowledge ensuring full development of propulsion requirements and dissemination to subcomponent levels. Project engineering experience using Earned Value Management System. Demonstrated success as a proposal/cost account manager and project/team leader. Ability to develop and lead collaborative efforts with structural, thermal, aerodynamics, and low‑observables disciplines. Supplier collaboration experience and oversight in generating specifications and statements of work. Working knowledge of missile design or development, production support, and integration. Experience with DoD customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership. Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance (DoD). Benefits & Compensation Salary range: $68,900 – $131,100.
