Blasting and Explosives Inspector

Overview The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a Blasting and Explosives Inspector to enforce statutes that protect public safety, our workers, and the environment. The inspector will oversee the safe, regulatory‑compliant storage, handling, and use of explosive materials at surface mining and other surface applications. Responsibilities Implement, monitor, and enforce current statutes and regulations related to explosive materials. Conduct thorough inspections at coal and non‑coal surface sites to regulate the purchase, sale, storage, and use of explosive materials in accordance with regulations and the Mining & Reclamation Policy. Identify violations, initiate enforcement proceedings, and develop corrective action plans. Issue orders and license suspensions as necessary and represent the department in legal hearings. Provide formal and informal presentations in cooperation with federal, state, and local officials, public groups, and organizations regarding blasting and explosives regulations. Work Schedule & Salary Full‑time employment. Work hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch break. Telework: Eligibility to work from home full‑time subject to a securely configured high‑speed Internet connection and approved Pennsylvania location. Salary: Starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes). Qualifications Four years of experience in the handling and use of explosives, including a minimum of two years as a lead blaster, blasting foreman, or blasting operations supervisor; OR A bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical sciences. Candidates 3 months from graduation with a qualifying degree are also eligible. Special Requirements Valid Pennsylvania commercial driver’s license with hazardous materials (H) endorsement. Class A “General” blaster’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
