The St. Louis Public Library's Carpenter Branch is seeking a Youth Services Assistant. This position will provide individual assistance and homework help to young customers, as well as implement key Library initiatives like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and Summer Adventure. This position advances the Library's mission by ensuring that all young people who visit the Library feel welcomed and supported.In this role you will:Ensure that youth and caregivers who visit the Library feel welcomed, have a positive experience, and find resources that meet their needs.Assist in the facilitation of regularly scheduled youth programming activities, including programs and camps.Promote and implement key Library programs like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and Operation Food Search meals.Read with children and help with their homework.Support with daily circulation tasks.You will need to be:Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with children and their caregivers.Comfortable providing homework support to children of all ages.Able to supervise children and teen use of the Library, including setting boundaries and redirecting children and teens as needed.Comfortable supporting group activities.You will need to have:High school diploma or equivalent required.Experience working with children in a professional setting.Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills.Comfort with using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.Benefits include:Competitive salary range starting at $15.82 an hour (20 hours/week)Paid sick and personal leaveMedical, dental, vision, and life insurance457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan401(a) PlanProfessional development opportunitiesPartial tuition reimbursement for approved coursesSchedule:Monday 3 - 8 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 2:30 - 6 p.m., with alternating Fridays and Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., hours subject to change.About Carpenter Library:Originally built in 1927, Carpenter Library has been renovated and expanded at its original location.Offers public services on one level.Dedicated youth area for children and teensSpaces include a computer lab, auditorium, 4 quiet rooms, and mezzanine areaAbout the neighborhood:Carpenter Library has been serving south-city residents for over 99 years.
