Responsibilities Lead the planning and execution of complex bioinformatics projects, providing detailed observations, critical analysis, and scientific rationale to guide successful outcomes. Contribute to the development of timelines, plans, and experimental outlines for new assignments and studies, ensuring delivery within defined timelines. Serve as a technical guide and mentor for junior bioinformatics scientists, facilitating knowledge transfer and skill development. Manage and analyze bench-generated data and bioinformatics outputs in high‑performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing environments. Determine and apply appropriate methods or technologies, proposing new techniques to advance research and product development. Maintain awareness of technological industry developments to support assignment completion and process improvement. Provide scientific rationale during data analysis and participate in decisions affecting project planning and experimental design. Prepare and communicate results through presentations, reports, and publications, and defend scientific findings in meetings. Lead process improvement initiatives and contribute to the intellectual property portfolio by implementing innovative ideas. Maintain accurate lab notebooks and documentation in compliance with legal, ISO, and QSR requirements. Act as a bioinformatics leader and subject‑matter expert across core and cross‑functional teams, influencing project strategy and direction. Supervise staff, including organizing work, conducting performance reviews, training, and managing work performance. Promote an open, collaborative environment built on trust, facilitating positive teamwork and effective communication across all organizational levels. Plan and prioritize activities to align with organizational and department goals, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently. Demonstrate technical proficiency, scientific creativity, rigorous analysis, and the ability to defend scientific ideas independently. Adapt to rapidly changing priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously with professional judgment. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, or related field; or Master’s degree with 4 years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of experience. 8+ years of industry or academia experience in bioinformatics. 6+ years of experience in the medical device/IVD, biotech, life science, or pharmaceutical industry. 3+ years of direct or indirect leadership or management experience. Deep knowledge of molecular biology/biochemistry, next‑generation sequencing (NGS), and genomics. Demonstrated expertise in product/assay research, design, or development. Basic computer skills including Internet navigation, email, and word processing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. Ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation. Preferred Qualifications 10+ years of experience in the medical device/IVD, biotech, life science, or pharmaceutical industry. Previous experience as a project lead for a team of scientists. 2+ years of direct people leadership and management experience. Experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing environment, preferably in a GMP and/or ISO environment. Experience in product development or technical support within the industry. Experience with genomic databases and software. Background with substantial bioinformatics troubleshooting work. Experience working in a molecular diagnostics/clinical laboratory setting.
