Physician - Occupational Medicine

Department: Occupational Medicine Hours: 16 per week (Days) Position Summary Provide high-quality, cost-effective care and treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses, and deliver occupational medicine services. Oversight assistance for the Department’s Advanced Practice Practitioners. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Deliver initial and episodic care to patients for work-related injuries and illnesses and assist with returning them to work as quickly and safely as possible. Perform physicals, screenings, etc., related to the patient’s job functions. Act as a consultant to identify, assess, and prevent workplace health hazards. Serve as a certified Medical Review Officer for oversight of drug and alcohol programs, including for DOT clients (if not certified upon hire, must obtain certification within three months of start date). Deliver care following standards and protocols set by the Medical Director. Function as an integral member of the clinical team, maintaining patient flow and working with administrative staff. Provide oversight to Advanced Practice Practitioners, including co‑signing notes, assisting with urgent or complex clinical questions or issues, and working closely with them to ensure timely, evidence-based care. Stay up-to-date on federal and state regulations for workforce health and safety (OSHA, DOT) and provide the best treatment plans and perform regulatory examinations. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Medical School and completed a residency program. Board certified/board eligible in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or equivalent field. CT state licensure with both DEA and DPH prescribing privileges. Skilled in traditional disciplines of patient assessment and management. Must obtain medical privileges at Middlesex Hospital in the Department of Medicine, section of Occupational Medicine; comply fully with MH Medical staff bylaws. Certification on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (“DOT examiner”) (certification prior to start date if not already certified). Certified Medical Review Officer (certify within 3 months of start date if not currently certified). Preferred Qualifications 2‑3 years experience as a practicing physician in Occupational Medicine, Urgent Care, or Emergency Department setting. Board Certification in Occupational Medicine.
