Staffing Details

• Day Shift:
• 1 Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC)
• 1 Transport RN
• Registered Nurses (RNs) based on census and acuity
• 1 Unit Secretary
• 1-2 Unit Technicians based on census
• Night Shift:
• 1 Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC)
• 1 Transport RN
• Registered Nurses (RNs) based on census and acuity
• 1 Unit Secretary
• 1-2 Unit Technicians based on census

Patient Ratios

• Level 3: 2:1 and 1:1 based on acuity
• Level 2: 3:1

• Radiant warmers
• Isolettes
• Syringe pumps
• Feeding pumps
• Ventilators, oscillators, JETs
• CPAP, NIPPV, High flow nasal cannula, nasal cannulas
• EKG monitors
• Breast milk warmers

Qualifications

Required Skills

• Safe administration of medications, including calculations
• Adherence to the 5 rights of medication administration
• Appropriate handling of expressed breast milk (EBM)
• Care for patients with NG/OG tubes
• Following feeding orders from Occupational Therapy/Speech Therapy
• Care for patients on CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, and Nasal Cannula
• Management of PIVs, PICCs, UACs/UVCs
• Safe care for patients 22 weeks and older
• Understanding of all equipment used in the NICU
• Promotion of safe sleeping practices for infants at 32-34 weeks gestation
• Developmentally appropriate care techniques for preterm infants
• Proficiency in lab draws
• Adequate knowledge for escalating patient concerns
• Knowledge of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) scoring

Preferred Skills

• Experience with endotracheal tubes (ETT), ventilators, JETs, cooling procedures, and surgical patients
