Position Information Job ID: 252 Title: School Bus Driver(s) Position Type: Transportation/Bus Driver Date Posted: 5/16/2025 Location: All Schools / Transportation FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT Salary Range: $25,863 - $46,849 based upon experience Qualifications License and Certification – Valid CDL with air brake, passenger (P), and school bus (S) endorsements. No CDL required to apply, but a Class A, B, or C driver’s license is required. Education – High school diploma or equivalent. Experience – Must successfully complete the Bus Driver training program provided by Petersburg City Public Schools; at least 21 years of age; holding an unrestricted driver’s license for three or more years prior to application. Skills – Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing; strong interpersonal skills; ability to take directions; positive attitude; ability to interact with students and maintain control over behavior; ability to operate a school bus safely and courteously; team play. Responsibilities Ensure safe, timely transportation of students and authorized personnel to and from schools and events. Operate the school bus in strict compliance with federal, state, and local laws and PCPS policies, including 70-90 hours initial training and 20-40 hours annual training; pass annual health physical, driving skills exam, random drug/alcohol tests; maintain protocols. Ensure students are loaded, secured, and unloaded safely. Count students, secure equipment. Maintain a safe environment by enforcing conduct rules, managing behavior, and reporting misbehavior. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain cleanliness and sanitation, adhere to maintenance requirements. Attend staff meetings, staff development training, and job-related workshops; keep up-to-date with technology. Prepare reports for field trips, incidents, inspections, mileage logs, etc. Communicate effectively with dispatchers, students, parents, staff, and administrators. Provide safety and emergency training to students on boarding, emergency actions, and monthly evacuation drills. Perform other duties as assigned by transportation coordinator or administrator. Physical Demands The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear; occasionally use hands to handle, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; may lift more than 100 lbs.
