WHAT YOU WILL DO TO HELP FURTHER THE BIAC MISSION:

The Brain Injury Reentry Specialist provides direct, face-to-face support to individuals with brain injuries who are transitioning out of the legal system. This role focuses on identifying brain injury symptoms, developing individualized reintegration plans, and advocating for clients within the Denver special courts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is essential to this position. Because consistent presence is required to support brain injury survivors and meet obligations to court partners, employees must be able to perform this function with or without reasonable accommodation

Client Service Delivery:

• Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of 20–25 brain injury (BI) survivors across 1–2 designated court dockets.

  • Provide wraparound services to help clients stabilize as they transition into a new phase of their lives.

  • Provide guidance, support, and hope to clients navigating the legal system and preparing to reintegrate into the community.

• Screening & Assessment: Conduct at least 75 BI screenings annually using validated identification methods (e.g., OSU TBI-ID).

• Reentry Planning: Collaboratively develop at least 75 comprehensive, wrap-around reentry plans annually.

  • Contact professionals who support survivors’ symptoms to share Symptom Support Plans. Offer case consultation and implementation support, strategies as appropriate to meet client needs.

  • Contact family members, caregivers, and other support network individuals (as ROIs allow) with survivors’ symptom support plans.

  • As appropriate, inform, refer, and help clients enroll in other BIAC services, including, but not limited to, counseling, the self-management program, recreation programs, classes and workshops, social activities, newsletter subscription, educational materials, financial support programs, and ticket giveaways.

  • Follow up with clients who are not eligible for this program and refer them to the proper BIAC program.

• Symptom Support: Create tailored symptom support plans for at least 75 legal-system-involved survivors annually.

• Group Facilitation: Facilitate at least one weekly AHEAD psychoeducation group.

Advocacy & Consultation:

• Provide case consultation to legal professionals (judges, attorneys, and probation officers) regarding a client's brain injury symptoms.

• Advocate for person-centered strategies for survivors within the legal and detention systems.

Administrative Compliance:

• Ensure 100% of case details and contact summaries are entered into Salesforce within 72 hours of interaction.

• Participate in 70–110 hours of annual professional development and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in a related field.

• Experience navigating systems in human service, case management, social work, legal systems, or other applicable settings.

• Experience with or willingness to complete small group facilitation.

• Travel to other meetings and events within the state, sometimes after hours and on weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

• Experience working with individuals who have cognitive disabilities and/or behavioral health challenges, as well as involvement in the legal system.

• Experience teaching life skills, including organization, financial management, healthy lifestyle, social skills, job skills, and computer and internet use.

• Knowledge and experience applying person-centered and culturally competent practices in interactions with clients, co-workers, professionals, and other community members.

• Experience using a database tracking system (Salesforce preferred).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• CBIS certification (acquired within one year of employment and maintained through continuing education). BIAC provides training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Have the ability to read and interpret documents. Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Have the ability to speak effectively in front of groups. Have the ability to engage in email regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations.

• Bilingual (English and Spanish) – preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• A fast-paced office work environment, managing multiple priorities, and regular multitasking are expected.

• The work environment is primarily on-site, with up to 1 remote day per week. (On-site may include time in the office, in the courtroom, and in the jails, in addition to meeting clients in the community.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

OTHER:

• Equipment used: computer, car, cell phone. Access: stairs, elevator.

• Travel: Spend about 80% of time (4 days per work week) traveling between the BIAC office, Denver courthouses, the Denver Detention Center, the Denver County Jail, and community meetings. Occasional overnight travel to other locations.

• Work Hours/Shifts: Varies; may occasionally include evening and weekend hours. Primarily 8:30- 4, M-F

WHAT WE OFFER YOU:

A standard full-time scheduled work week of 35 hours.

Training and Professional Development:

• Lifelong Learning: Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
