Street Operator IIICDL

A Street Operator III for Maumelle Public Works carries out various duties to contribute to the upkeep and construction of streets in the City of Maumelle. Typical duties for this position include (but are not limited to): operating heavy machinery using various hand and power tools pouring concrete laying asphalt and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Director of Public Works.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Operate graders backhoes dozers front-end loaders and other related machinery
2. Operate mowing machines jackhammers chain saws concrete saws and posthole diggers
3. Use hand tools such as saws hammers nail guns and related equipment and tools
4. Mow grass using riding or other types of lawnmowers
5. Remove or trim shrubs hedges and trees using hand or power tools
6. Plant grass flowers and trees
7. Paint and repair park benches and other park equipment
8. Build repair and paint guardrails and fences
9. Remove weeds and trash from parks and streets
10. Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under varying weather conditions
11. Ground maintenance work such as weed-eating edging and similar tasks
12. Building maintenance work such as painting carpentry concrete and similar tasks
13. Pick up trash on rights-of-way parks common areas and other City property
14. Repair playground equipment and motor vehicle equipment as instructed
15. Assist Crew Foreman in the design and construction of street signs and traffic control devices
16. Install and maintain street signs and traffic control equipment
17. Assist Crew Foreman in performing carpentry and building maintenance work in City-owned buildings
18. Assist in construction projects of laying concrete blocks mixing and pouring cement mortar constructing and repairing street curbs gutters and sidewalks
19. Operate paint striper for painting markings on street surfaces sidewalks and parking lots
20. Work on street construction and maintenance crews performing tasks such as breaking pavement pouring and shoveling asphalt and concrete removing ice and snow salting and sanding streets and other similar tasks
21. Operate and perform minor maintenance on trucks and other motor-driven equipment
22. Supervise assigned employees
23. Notify the Director of Public Works of unusual or suspicious activities or circumstances
24. Perform any other activities as may be deemed necessary by the Director of Public Works

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The education and experience listed below are representative of the knowledge skills and abilities generally necessary to fulfill this require ment .

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• 12 to 18 months related experience (equivalent training/experience will be considered)
• 1 to 6 months managerial/supervisory experience.
• Class A or B Commercial Drivers License

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operator IIIs in the Street Department directly lead one (1) to three (3) laborers. They carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Citys policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance rewarding and disciplining employees addressing complaints and resolving problems as they arise.
