Posting Summary The Supervising Physician is responsible for providing medical services to inmates of the Department of Corrections, consistent with community Standards of Care. The role includes clinical supervision of physicians and nurse practitioners, liaison with external clinical providers, on‑call availability, and oversight of medical services within the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton. Responsibilities Provide clinical and professional supervision, management and monitoring of physicians and nurse practitioners/physician assistants assigned to the prison. Conduct regular peer reviews of clinical documentation, medication usage and consult patterns. Host quarterly meetings to review CQI issues, policies and problems. Participate in annual performance evaluations of regional physicians and nurse practitioners. Collaborate with the Medical Director and regional nurse managers to develop and maintain appropriate medical services. Assist in the development and implementation of UCHC policies and procedures. Participate in UCHC continuous quality improvement programs, including corrective action plans, continuing medical education and best‑practice algorithms/models. Prepare for health care reviews and inspections, such as National Commission of Correctional Health Care inspections. Maintain monthly provider clinic schedules and manage time‑off, time‑sheet approvals and attendance policies for physicians and nurse practitioners. Ensure adherence to Rutgers, UCHC and NJDOC conduct and policies, including dress codes and time‑and‑attendance policies. Document and enact progressive discipline for physicians and nurse practitioners in collaboration with the Medical Director. Serve as liaison for clinical matters with external medical providers and be available for on‑call services. Qualifications Licensed physician in the State of New Jersey with current DEA registration, CDS and CPR certifications. Board certified and qualified by state laws/regulations to practice medicine. Experience in a primary care specialty. Computer literacy. Valid driver’s license required; possessing own vehicle or alternative means of transportation between sites. Excellent communication skills for upper management, patients, inmates and staff. Demonstrated interpersonal skills in a service environment. Ability to present information orally and in writing to groups and individual audiences, including top management and public groups. Experience interacting with a diverse population in a prison setting. Preferred Qualifications None specified.
