Field Paramedic

Position Summary Paramedic provides advanced‑level medical care, including evaluation, treatment, and stabilization of ill and injured individuals. This position is located in the Ada County Emergency Medical Services Department. Responsibilities Administer and direct efficient and effective first‑aid treatment, medical care, or life‑support care in prehospital settings, complying with clinical standards and maintaining State licensure as a Paramedic, BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications. Access, extricate, immobilize, and transport patients from a range of locations and emergency situations to appropriate medical facilities, providing treatment en route while maintaining physical fitness, stamina, and agility. Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures. Operate and navigate emergency vehicles, as well as equipment necessary for diagnostic and treatment procedures. Communicate effectively with dispatch, hospital, police, fire personnel and other parties, utilizing radio or other means. Participate in continuing training and instruction covering emergency medicine, hazardous materials, disaster response, technical rescue, occupational safety, customer service, and other pertinent subjects. Maintain patient care reports, files, and forms, as well as records of vehicles, supplies, training, and daily work. Ensure quality and accuracy of care provided by EMTs. Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles, and living quarters. Additional Functions Provide training to personnel. Perform technical rescues. Perform other related functions as assigned. Requirements Must possess and maintain Idaho State licensure as a Paramedic; BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications. Maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency paramedicine; attend continuing education to maintain certification. Possess a valid driver’s license; knowledge of county street systems, addresses, and physical layout. Skill in performing technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to diagnose and treat medical emergencies with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to maintain a professional and objective approach to care. Ability to work twelve‑ or twenty‑four‑hour shifts and maintain punctual attendance. Ability to safely drive and operate emergency vehicles. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance). Ability to navigate varying terrain and inclement weather conditions. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform with or without reasonable accommodation as required. Other Requirements Safety‑sensitive position subject to random drug testing. Must wear and maintain Department uniforms and issued equipment. Must be able to work inside and outside in changing climatic conditions and hazardous environments, including exposure to hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, and airborne pathogens.
