Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Evans Capacitor Co
Job Description
Job Description:\n\nDescription:\n About Evans Capacitor Company: \nEvans, an electronic components company, is a trusted partner in the military, aerospace, industrial, and commercial markets, with over a century of combined experience as a reliable problem-solver. Being part of the Evans Group portfolio has enabled Evans to continue developing cutting-edge capacitor technology alongside other world-class technology companies that represent the future of mission-critical electronics. \nEvans, with sites in East Providence, RI, Sanford, ME, and Phoenix, AZ, manufactures high-energy-density capacitors for demanding, mission-critical applications. We have the most power-dense capacitor technology in the industry and are routinely specified for defense, aerospace, and energy exploration applications where high reliability and SWaP (space, weight, and power) savings are critical design considerations. \n\nJob Summary: \nEvans is experiencing significant growth and is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead the Manufacturing Engineering organization across our East Providence, RI, Sanford, ME, and Phoenix, AZ facilities. The primary location for this role is East Providence, RI. \nThis role will report to the Director of Engineering and is responsible for building, leading, and strengthening a high performing Manufacturing Engineering team while driving operational excellence, equipment reliability, process improvement, and manufacturing scalability across all locations. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will establish clear priorities, accountability, and ownership throughout the organization while creating an environment where employees are empowered to solve problems and continuously improve. \nThe successful candidate must be an equally strong people leader and technical leader. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of building engaged, accountable teams and developing talent, not simply managing projects, products, or technical initiatives. \nThis is a hands on leadership role. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is expected to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor working directly with operators, technicians, maintenance personnel, and engineers to solve problems, improve processes, remove barriers, and drive results. \nThe role encompasses oversight of manufacturing engineering, equipment reliability, maintenance and facilities support, process improvement initiatives, quality support, capital projects, and cross functional operational initiatives that are critical to business success. \n\nKey Responsibilities: \n\nLeadership and Team Building \n• Lead, coach, and develop the Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities teams across multiple locations. \n• Build a cohesive, engaged, and accountable engineering organization aligned around common goals and business objectives. \n• Establish clear priorities, performance expectations, ownership, and accountability across the team. \n• Create an environment where team members understand their responsibilities, are empowered to make decisions, and are held accountable for results. \n• Develop and implement career development plans for direct reports and support the professional growth of the team. \n• Recruit, retain, and build strong engineering talent to support current business needs and future growth. \n• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, urgency, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. \n• Ensure effective communication and alignment between engineering teams located in Rhode Island, Maine, and Arizona. \n• Build strong partnerships with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and Sales leaders to drive business performance. \n• Participate as a key member of the operational leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, prioritization, and execution across the organization. \n\n \nProcess Improvement and Manufacturing Excellence \n• Lead efforts to optimize and refine manufacturing processes with a focus on quality, reliability, efficiency, throughput, cost reduction, and waste reduction. \n• Identify, prioritize, and implement process improvements that improve yields, reduce defects, increase output, and support customer delivery. \n• Foster a culture of continuous improvement through the practical application of Lean, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and other problem-solving methodologies. \n• Champion cross-functional initiatives that improve end-to-end operational performance, from order intake through customer delivery. \n• Use data and performance metrics to identify trends, solve problems, and drive sustainable improvements. \n• Work directly with operators, technicians, engineers, and manufacturing leaders to troubleshoot issues and implement practical solutions. \n• Balance short-term production needs with long-term process capability, capacity, and scalability. \n\n \nQuality, Risk Management, and Compliance \n• Partner with the Quality team to ensure processes, materials, equipment, and products meet internal requirements, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards. \n• Support corrective action, preventive action, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities to prevent recurrence of quality issues. \n• Utilize data-driven approaches to enhance product quality, process stability, and reliability. \n• Establish, maintain, and drive effective use of FMEA processes to identify and reduce operational, product, and process risks. \n• Identify potential risks to process stability, product quality, equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. \n• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to reduce impact to business operations. \n• Support CMMC Level 2 readiness and assessment activities related to manufacturing engineering, equipment, systems, processes, documentation, and operational controls. \n• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, environmental, export control, and company requirements. \n• Actively support business continuity planning and operational risk management across departments. \nEquipment Reliability, Maintenance, and Facilities \n• Oversee the maintenance, reliability, and optimization of critical manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and maximize operational performance. \n• Lead the implementation and effective use of UpKeep or similar maintenance management software to manage preventive maintenance, work orders, assets, maintenance history, and equipment performance. \n• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs in partnership with Maintenance and Facilities teams. \n• Establish and manage a critical spares strategy to improve uptime and reduce business risk. \n• Ensure facility readiness, equipment availability, operational uptime, and capacity planning are aligned with business needs. \n• Partner with Operations and Maintenance to identify recurring equipment issues and implement sustainable corrective actions. \n• Support capital equipment planning, equipment qualification, installation, and operational readiness activities. \n• Ensure maintenance and facilities priorities are clearly defined, resourced, tracked, and executed. \n\n \nProject Management and Resource Allocation \n• Lead and manage multiple engineering and operational projects, ensuring on-time delivery, budget adherence, and quality outcomes. \n• Allocate resources effectively to meet project timelines and prioritize initiatives based on business impact. \n• Create clear project plans, ownership, timelines, metrics, and communication cadences. \n• Foster collaboration between cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution. \n• Proactively balance day-to-day execution with longer-term capacity building to support future growth. \n• Communicate project status, risks, decisions, and resource needs clearly to leadership and stakeholders. \nAdditional duties as assigned. \n\nWhat Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months: \nWithin the first year, the successful Manufacturing Engineering Manager will have: \n• Established a high performing Manufacturing Engineering organization across Rhode Island, Maine, and Arizona with clearly defined priorities, responsibilities, accountabilities, and decision-making authority. \n• Created clarity for the team around what matters most, how success is measured, and where the team is empowered to make decisions. \n• Developed and implemented career development plans for all direct reports, creating a culture focused on growth, accountability, engagement, and retention. \n• Built credibility as a hands-on leader who is visible on the manufacturing floor and actively engaged with the people, equipment, and processes that drive performance. \n• Successfully led Engineering support for the organization's CMMC Level 2 assessment and achieved the required assessment objectives. \n• Established and implemented a critical spares strategy that improves equipment uptime, reduces maintenance related delays, and mitigates operational risk. \n• Fully implemented and driven adoption of the UpKeep maintenance management system, ensuring preventive maintenance, asset management, work order tracking, and maintenance activities are consistently managed. \n• Established and standardized FMEA and processes and ensured they are routinely used to identify, prioritize, and mitigate operational and product risks. \n• Improved equipment reliability, manufacturing throughput, and process capability through disciplined execution of continuous improvement initiatives. \n• Strengthened collaboration between Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Facilities, Finance, and Sales. Requirements:\nRequired Qualifications \n• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field preferred. \n• Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within tantalum wet capacitor, electronic components, aerospace, defense, or another high-reliability manufacturing industry. \n• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience leading and managing an engineering, maintenance, facilities, or manufacturing support team. \n• Must be considered a U.S. Person eligible to work in the United States. \n• Strong technical aptitude and hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment, process improvement, equipment reliability, and troubleshooting. \n• Demonstrated ability to develop, organize, and communicate clear objectives, priorities, metrics, and accountability. \n• Experience using data to solve problems, improve processes, and support sound business decisions. \n• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies. \n• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint. \n• Ability to read and write in English. \n\n \nPreferred Qualifications \n• Experience leading teams across multiple sites or geographically dispersed operations. \n• Experience with ERP systems, maintenance management systems, process automation, and manufacturing software tools. \n• Experience implementing or improving maintenance systems, preventive maintenance programs, critical spares programs, or asset management processes. \n• Experience with UpKeep or a similar maintenance management software system preferred. \n• Experience supporting regulated manufacturing environments, quality systems, compliance initiatives, or CMMC related readiness activities preferred. \n• Experience with FMEA processes preferred. \n• Experience with design software and document management systems is a plus. \n• Experience participating in or leading site level operational planning or budgeting processes preferred. \n\n \nLeadership and Technical Capabilities \n• Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high performing teams in a manufacturing environment. \n• Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to create clarity around priorities, responsibilities, accountability, and decision-making authority. \n• Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands on execution. \n• Strong floor presence and willingness to work directly with equipment, operators, maintenance personnel, and manufacturing processes. \n• Demonstrated ability to create career development plans, strengthen team capability, and build an engaged and accountable team. \n• Proven track record of leading through influence and partnering effectively with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and Sales, \n• Strong business acumen with an understanding of manufacturing operations, supply chain, finance, customer service, and operational planning. \n• Ability to think strategically, manage organizational complexity, and make decisions that balance short term execution with long term business needs. \n• Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable shifting between priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. \n• Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a hands-on, can-do attitude. \n\n \nWork Environment and Physical Demands:? \n\n General office and manufacturing environment.??? \n Exposure to hazards associated with manufacturing equipment and tools.? \n This position requires working near electrical and mechanical equipment that could potentially interfere with pacemaker function. \n While performing the duties of this job, the employee will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.? \n Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, perform computer work, and communicate effectively in person and electronically.? \n Occasional travel (less than 10%) may be required to other Quantic company facilities, support customer visits, supplier meetings, or industry events.? \n Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds? \n Sitting, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling motions? \n Ability to handle small tools, parts, and machinery with precision.? \n Visual acuity for reading measurements, assembly instructions, and monitoring equipment.? \n Will be required to wear appropriate PPE as outlined by company safety protocols.? \n\nEEO/AA? \nQuantic is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
